I was going to get this crest toothpaste today which stated that it "whitens" your teeth. My mother said that i shouldn't get those teeth whitening toothpastes because they're bad for your teeth. So i just switched to this colgate one that supposedly just cleans your teeth well. Why exactly is whitening toothpaste bad for your teeth?

Whitening toothpaste is not "bad" for you....but for people with sensitive teeth, it is more abrasive which can make teeth more sensitive. Whitening toothpaste really does not "whiten" your teeth significantly, but it does help prevent additional staining because of its abrasiveness and take care of very minimal surface stains. Any toothpaste you can buy at the drugstore will not hurt your teeth, so use what you are comfortable with. Colgate is great, so you did make a good choice. =)

will teeth whitening strips work on white fillings in front teeth?
I have some white fillings in the front of my teeth, and I'm afraid that if I use the whitening strips, they will only work on my teeth and not the fillings. I don't want my teeth to be different colors between the natural tooth and the filling.

The whitening strips DO NOT work on white fillings. The components of the fillings are different from those of the natural tooth. If you want to have whiter teeth you should go to a proffesionist , and anyway if you'll decide to make them whiter the doctor will have to substitute the fillings in order to match your teeth's new color. WHITENING STRIPS ARE INEFFECTIVE ON FILLINGS, as any other whitening method. Good luck

Where was the teeth whitening secret really discovered?
Well I work in Buffalo Grove, IL and when I go on the web there, I will see advertisements that say a Buffalo Grove Mom discovered a secret to whiten your teeth for cheap, and the experts don't want you to know about it. Then, when I was in Chicago, I saw the same ad, but this time it said it was actually a Chicago woman who made this discovery! So my question is, where is the real location of the mom that discovered this tooth whitening secret the experts don't want you to know about???

It's a scam! There is no real mom in these ads - I read an article about it - the ad makes that claim for you wherever you are. When I go to basic sites it says the mom is from American Fork, LOL. I actually blog about teeth whitening at www.shineteethwhitening.com, so I've taken the time to research a lot of those questions. You have to be really careful about any of those ads. They get you to sign up for a free sample and then you're subscribed and start getting ongoing shipments for very overpriced and useless products and services until you can finally dispute the charges and get your credit card company to make the shipments and charges stop. They bank on you not discovering it for a month or two and they make it difficult (or impossible) to find the vendor to make the treachery stop. It really doesn't have much effect on the level of staining. Many whitening gums (like Orbit White) contain baking soda. The abrasive particles "scrub" your teeth while you chew. Others (like Trident) have a fancy name for something that whitens teeth, but if you look at the ingredients you'll find baking soda as well.

someone an hour ago asked if a toothpaste could whiten her teeth. here's what I wrote...i think it applies to your question as well! sadly, NO toothpaste, no matter what they say will truly whiten your teeth; at least not enough to dramatically notice! they removed a little surface stain, but not much more than when the hygienist polishes your teeth at your cleaning appointment. anyway, the best way to get teeth whiter is (honestly) Crest whitestrips or similar product from a reputable company. they're only about $30 and they work fairly well! if that doesn't do it for you, you can have it "professionally" done at a dental office,but this can cost $200, 400, even 600 dollars. if you do have it done at an office, the take home trays are less expensive but just as good as the "laser" whitening (ZOOM! and similar products....) I went to a class last year where the guy who basically inVENTed the whitening tray process that my office and others use came out and said, "Look, the best bang for the buck is over the counter like Whitestrips." there are advantages (and maybe more dramatic results?) from in-office whitening, but try the strips first!
