teeth whitening?

whats the best at home way to whitening your teeth at hom i use listerine whitening rinse and brush my teeth with aquafresh whitening extremem clean about 4 times a day what else can i do? im 17 and dont smoke and usually only drink water only my two canines need it the most
--------------------
Take a look at my post below... but know that it is normal for the canine teeth to be darker than the rest due to being more bulky (less flat than the front center 4 teeth) so even if you whiten they will still be darker. Also, along the gumline will appear darker than the chewing surfaces or edges of the front teeth. I would brush, floss and hold off on the whitening rinse while using a whitening product. Give the rest a read... I can say that most of my patient's have had some measure of success with the Crest Whitestrips, some more than others. Our office uses the Supreme which are 4 times stronger than what you can get in the store, but the others will work as well but take more time and possibly more than one kit. The results are usually pretty quick, noticeable in the first few days, best in a week or longer. If you can, do yourself the favor of using them right after you get your teeth cleaned as any staining and buildup (tartar, plaque, or orthodontic cement) will impede their ability to work. They will not whiten any white fillings you may have, but whiten uniformly. Also, don't use fluoride toothpaste before putting the strips on (same reason). You should not drink or eat anything dark for at least 1/2 hour after using the strips. The strips/trays are your least costly whitening method as compared to custom made trays or in office whitening ($500.00+) All of the methods (strips, trays, custom trays, in office whitening) have the potential to make your teeth temporarily sensitive, but will not harm the enamel. If you get sensitive use the product every other day in conjunction with a sensitive tooth toothpaste. You might try to drink dark liquids through a straw and don't smoke. Most whitening toothpastes just remove stain on the surfaces of your teeth and therefore are not so effective. Whatever method you use it will not whiten your teeth for life, as you age your teeth will get darker and may need to be whitened again. Good luck! JAMRDH - a dental hygienist

Teeth Whitening??

I got my braces off like a month or two ago and my teethe haven't ever been yellow but they were like really white before i got them on. So i want to whiten my teeth. What kind of teeth whitening products do you use? I've been using Crest whitening expressions, floss, Listerine mouth wash, and crest whitening strips daily renual after every meal. Is this good or should i be using different products and what kind of products do you use? thanks <33
--------------------
I recently got my braces off also. After I brush my teeth at night, I put some baking soda on my toothbrush and brush my teeth with that. It really works! And it works faster than any whitening strips, mouth wash, or floss I've heard of. Now I get complimented on my teeth all the time.

Teeth Whitening??

We know toothpastes that claim to make teeth whiter are lies. I want to get my teeth professionally whitened (laser??) Does anyone have any more info about professional teeth whitening? Like what celebrities do? Prices? Different procedures?
--------------------
The first step to understanding 'whitening' is how to measure it. There is something called a 'shade guide', which is often used to measure the coloration of teeth. This is best done by taking the various shades and putting them next to your teeth until the color most closely matches the teeth. When you talk about whitening, improvement is usually measured in numbers of shades. Of course, the shade guides are sometimes subtle, so you might get an improvement of 1-2 shades by using a whitening toothpaste and not know it, or not be satisfied with it based on the improvement you want to make. This doesn't mean that the whitening toothpaste companies are lying to you about improvement. But what it does mean is that if you are looking for more dramatic improvement than 1-2 shades, you might look elsewhere besides off the shelf whitening toothpastes. There are a variety of options to whiten your teeth that you can explore with your local dentist. These will vary in cost, effectiveness, and time it takes to produce results. The least expensive will be tray bleaching, in which the dentist makes a mouthpiece for you and you wear it to sleep every night. The results will take place over time, which may or may not be what you want. When they take place over time, they will be less immediately noticeble, making it less likely that you will draw attention (and questions) from those that know you well. This will also most likely be the least expensive dental office whitening treatment. There are also in-office, one visit treatments, such as Zoom!, BriteSmile, or a number of laser whitening treatments. With these treatments, expect substantial improvement in one visit - perhaps 6-8 shades, although your dentist will best be able to discuss your particular case and expectations. There is one additional innovation I have seen in regards to whitening. There are some stains (such as those caused by the antibiotic tertacycline) which none of the above whitening methods have effectively served. A dentist in Southern California has come up with a system called 'Deep Bleaching', which has achieved results with these deep stains. This procedure will take multiple visits to the dentist, and probably will be more expensive than the one-visit in office procedures. However, the results speak for themselves. If you want to see deep bleaching explained, with photographs and results as measured by the shade guides, go to http://www.dentalmiracles.com/pages/cosm… As far as celebrities, those that get whitening get them from dentists. There are certain dentists that are likely to have treated celebrities (reputed dentists in Los Angeles and New York are likely to have more celebrity clients than others), but celebrities by and large visit dentists with which you can make an appointment as well. Obviously, the treatment plan is based on the individual case, so that is between dentist and patient. And the 'celebrity dentists' are likely to charge higher fees than average. Best of luck to you in your search for whiter teeth.

teeth whitening?

I wanna know...do those white strip things really work? I want my teeth to be whiter, and I've heard some of those whitening things work and some don't. so which ones work the best? and like how do people like Kristin Calvallari get their teeth white like that? strips or done at the dentist?
--------------------
Well my dad's a dentist...He recommends me to not use those strips and not get it laser done if you're under 20....He recommends this gel thing ......The dentist makes an impression of your teeth and gives you this whitening gel......You might feel sensitive but that's because its starting to work.....you can use them at night right before you sleep and take them off in the morning.....Usually these strips tak at least one week to become white.....or even less it depends upon your teeth... Good luck remember be patient!

I recently whitened my teeth, but I am not satisfied. Will whitening twice back to back damage my enamel?

I recently used Aquafresh White Trays, but I am not completley satisfied. If I use Crest Whitestrips now, would it damage my enamel? I have heard rumors that too much whitening can permanantley damage enamel.
--------------------
its not advisable to go for whitening ,as it a trend now adays as a cosmetic task ,once in a year is OK ,or else you will spoil the surface enamel and the dentine will expose which is a natural coating underneath the enamel and if you do it back to back and so on it will lead to ultra sentivity to your teeth .
Source

What side effects do whitening strips have on your teeth?

Does the whitening wear away the enamel on your teeth?? Or have any other permanent negative effects besides sensitivity for a day or two?
--------------------
The whitener in the strips doesn't strip the enamel nor does it contain actual bleach. The whiteners are a more diluted variety of what is used in the dentist's office. The whiteners actually contain a type of "peroxide" which when used on the teeth, cause the "dentin" or "tubule" layer to be exposed or swell. This leads to sensitivity. If you are going to use a Whitening strip, get a toothpaste made for people with sensitive teeth. Slowly build up your tolerance to the whitening strips. Only apply them for half the time that the directions say. This means it will take longer to get your teeth brighter but you will be less sensitive.

Do you ever have problems when whitening your teeth?

A few years ago I had my dentist fit me with mouth trays and got the prescription gel to go in them. It was the senstive teeth stuff.....I did it for a few nights and couldnt take it anymore. My mouth kept watering and I didnt want to swallow it so I was spitting constantly into a kleenex. Is there any way or tips to make this bearable? I also tried the strips and same thing. The trays were overnighters.....
--------------------
I have had my teeth professionally whitened and later in the day I felt the worst pain ever (like worse than some minor surgeries I've had...) and I've tried the strips but had to quit early for the same reason. BUT, I've also tried Crest Night Effects which is you paint something onto your teeth and leave it for 30 minutes then brush it off. This was the one thing I've tried that did not hurt at all. Maybe its because its not as strong as doing it professionally and its doesn't touch the bottom parts of our teeth like a strip would since those wrap around the bottom. Anyway, it may not be as effective as doing it pro. but I recommend Crest Night Effects. It did make a difference and I was pain free :)

How much do dentists normally charge for teeth whitening?

i no it all depends but give me an estimation.
--------------------
Huge range here, depending on where you live, what kind of whitening you get, and how your dentist does it. Take home trays can run from free (for a promotion such as referring your friends or to attract new patients) to $400. Average for take home trays probably $200. In office light activated (like Zoom brand), from $500 to $700. Again, many offices discount the procedure to attract new patients. Secret: It doesn't cost the dental office that much to do these procedures, once they have the equipment. It's mostly assistant time and the direct cost of the impression material, tubes of bleach, acryllic trays, etc. That's why they can afford to discount it or give it away in some cases.

Is this teeth whitening method dangerous or safe?

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/843480/whiter_teeth_really_cheap/ I found this on metacafe and seems to be legit and safe. I see no dangerous chemicals involved.
--------------------
Teeth whitening doesn't really fit into the realm of being 'safe' or really being 'dangerous'. The only real danger bleaching has is that it can lead to sensitivity in teeth as well as gum tissue, depending upon (1) patient use frequency (2) percentage of bleach in whitening gel (3) patient tolerance. Whether or not it is safe, no one i have heard of has died or developed any medical complications due to its use. Teeth whitening is more of an esthetic choice to make, rather than a medical one. The materiels used have all been tested, and each company has their own formula. The bleach, while you shouldn't eat it, can sometimes go down your throat during use, but its safe, so that shouldn't make you grow an extra eye or anything like that. If you're worried about it, you can always start on the lower percentage bleaching materials, like the crest whitestrips or whatnot, and see how that works for you. If you want something more powerful, you would have to see your dental professional. Do note that if your a smoker or coffee/tea drinker, its going to be tough to bleach your teeth, since nicotine and caffeine do cause staining. Just a side note.

Is it safe to apply a bleach and water soltuion to your teeth for whitening?

I don't mean lots of it...just a little to the water. Ya think it'll work?

I recommend peroxide instead of bleach. Swish a capful of peroxide for about a minute then rinse. But don't swallow!

Couple of Zoom Teeth Whitening questions please?

I have been considering getting this procedure done, but I have a couple of questions before I can really decide. -How much is the procedure cost (I dont foresee it being covered by insurance, so it would probably be 100% out-of-pocket expense) -Does it work with caps as well? (I have 4 crowns due to broken teeth when I was a child, would it whiten them as well, or would they need to re-do my crowns)?
--------------------
I don't know about the cost but I do know that they will not whiten your crowns. They would have to be redone after you reach your desired shade. We used Zoom at the office I last worked at and it turned out really well. I can't recall how much we charged for it though, we didn't have many patients have it done so it might have been pricey. Hope this helps some!

best Teeth whitening products?

I've seen so many offers online for teeth whitening, and on TV I always see the commercials for the tooth paste, what is the best teeth whitening products that you recommend me to use?
--------------------
I found at home teeth whitening kits working the best for me. The formula has maximum strength carbamide peroxide at 22%. This enables it to lift some of the most hard to remove stains. In fact, many users of at home teeth whitening kit will tell you that the kit helped them get rid of some old set in stains that other teeth whitening methods had left behind. Here's the review that got me convinced: http://tophealthreviews.net/premium-whit…

What is an estimated price to get the procedure Zoom! teeth whitening done?

if you had it done how much was it for you and does it really work?
--------------------
400 bucks, AND IT HURTS. SO MUCH. They dehydrate your teeth which makes the pulp inside the tooth throb, and beyond that they shine this really bright, hot light on them after applying a toxic bleaching chemical to your teeth. If the dentist isn't careful small parts of the gum will burn and come out, and your lips may get burned and swollen too. If your teeth don't have enough enamel on them the white won't even stay. Please, try another method.

i jus turned 13 and want teeth whitening stuff?

is it ok for me to do the strips on my teeth?
--------------------
I don't see why not. I used them 5 years ago (Crest strips) and my teeth are still nice and white, but they weren't that bad to begin with. I assume since you're 13 yours aren't very stained, either. The only thing I will warn you about is the pain! I'm sure everybody's teeth react differently, but they made mine hurt SO bad and they were so sensitive it kept me up all night in pain. I'm not saying it will for sure happen to you, but be ready for the possibility. Good luck!

a question about teeth whitening using crest professional effect white strips?

i have been using them for almost five days now and not really noticing any change which is disappointing because i have read so many good reviews, anyone out there who can advice on whether i just need two packages to see the big improvement or need to change the product and why is this working for most people and not me, my teeth arent stained, i rarely drink coffee and i never smoke so why wouldnt it work for me? thanks
--------------------
there are different ranges in color to teeth. there are yellows, grays and reddish-browns. yellows bleach out very easily, where grays and reddish browns hardly ever do. not everyone is a candidate for bleaching. it has nothing to do with surface staining and everything to do with the shading of the tooth. it is most likely that your teeth just are not in the yellow range. you would need a professional shade guide to know. ask your dentist next time you are in what range you are in.

My daughter models. Can I write-off the cost of braces and/or teeth whitening?

No personal expenses would never be deductible on any 1040 federal income tax return and I believe that you already you knew this before you asked this question. From experience, what are the best teeth whitening products you can get from drugstores, etc....?

I can't get my teeth whitened at the dentist, I'm only 15 1/2 and don't have a ton of money for that. What are the best whitening products you have used? Any bad side effects? Usually I can handle pain. I've got Crest Vivid White, I just bought it yesterday. It seems to be working a bit already!

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

okay my first question is: what is it in teeth whitening strips that make your teeth change color to white? what chemicals? what substances react to each other? My second question is: can the substance be made using home made items? Third question: can the substance(s) in teeth whitening strips whiten any thing other than teeth or any item that is almost made out of the same substance as teeth? if so, what substances are made of of the same things teeth have? |for science project|
--------------------
Hydrogen peroxide seems to be the main active ingredient in teeth whiten strips. Hydrogen peroxide can be used for many different reasons. 1) Clean your counters, table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters 2) After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria 3) And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it's not a drastic change 4) Clean with hydrogen peroxide when your house becomes a biohazard after its invaded by toxic mold, such as those with water damage-Truth!

none actually that i had tried. I ended up whitening my teeth at the dentist. I had this friend who actually approach the dentist and had a mouding of her teeth made. Then the dentist sold her this special serum that is applied onto the plastic teeth moulds and she would just wear them to sleep. After just one try, her teeth were as white as ever!! I tried looking for it at the stores, but i couldnt find it. I guess its only sold at those dental centers. It wouldnt hurt to ask what exactly is that serum.
