I am replacing my top (middle) 2 front teeth (from a gnarly bike wipeout in 4th grade) sometime b4 this yr is over. I am currently on my 2nd set of porcelain crowns which were done in 7th or 8th grade. I am now 25 & replacing them since it's been over 10 yrs (so they're gettin pretty old, obviously) & also b/c they're not as asthetically appealing as they used to be & my gums have receded a little bit baring my natural teeth @ tha very top of my crown, which my dentist has assured me is due to normal aging gums. I want to bleach tha rest of my teeth (since crowns can't be bleached) quite a bit for a brighter, whiter & newer smile with these new crowns. I am planning on asking my dentist her opinion but I want others' opinions as well. Should I whiten my teeth B4 tha new crowns are cemented in & match it th@ way or after (& have tha crowns made as white as I want tha rest of my teeth to be)? Use a home whitening kit or a dentist whitening kit? SERIOUS OPINIONS/ANSWERS ONLY!!!
--------------------
yes! whiten first. Ive been in the dental business for 15 years and like you said, crowns cannot be bleached. and even with (any) whitening you do, it will have to be repeated periodically. SOMETIMES your dentist can tell how light your teeth will become and plan accordingly for the crowns. but trust me, its very frustrating(for the patient, dentist, and lab) when the patient decides to bleach after getting the crowns.

Can i have my teeth Whitened at the Dentist at 17 years old?
Ok so my teeth arnt white there yellow not Natural yellow and it puts my confidence down big time the dentist i go to costs £400 and i have the money will they do it ?? or do you have to be over 18 as most teeth products say not suitable for under 18 Thanks guys :D

You can probably have it done. The dentist may require your parents consent since you're 17. Significant color change in a short period of time is the major benefit of in-office whitening. This protocol involves the carefully controlled use of a relatively high-concentration peroxide gel, applied to the teeth by the dentist or trained technician after the gums have been protected with a paint-on rubber dam. Generally, the peroxide remains on the teeth for several 15 to 20 minute intervals that add up to an hour (at most). Those with particularly stubborn staining may be advised to return for one or more additional bleaching sessions, or may be asked to continue with a home-use whitening system. Teeth whitening is not a permanent solution and requires maintenance or "touch-ups" for a prolonged effect. Many dentists are of the opinion that professionally dispensed take-home whitening kits can produce the best results over the long haul. Take-home kits incorporate an easy-to-use lower-concentration peroxide gel that remains on the teeth for an hour or longer (sometimes overnight). The lower the peroxide percentage, the longer it may safely remain on the teeth. The gel is applied to the teeth using custom-made bleaching trays that resemble mouth guards. Teeth whitening results are subjective, varying considerably from person to person. Many are immediately delighted with their outcome, while others may be disappointed. Before you embark on any whitening treatment, ask your dentist for a realistic idea of the results you are likely to achieve and how long it should take to achieve them. Expectations play a major role in teeth whitening.

what should get done 1st my chipped tooth fixed or teeth whiten?
i wanna white my teeth and fix my 2 chipped front teeth ......what should i do first?
--------------------
Animal Luvr is right. Get the teeth to their whitest shade and then the dentist will color match the shade of the material to your new shade. The filling material will not whiten so if you place it and match the shade of your teeth before they are whitened, then when your teeth are whiter the material will be darker and stick out like a sore thumb..Also whitening strips work to some degree but will not be as good as if the dentist puts on his more powerful solution.

Try crest whitestrips, my mom uses them and they really work, i can't use them right now, though, because i have braces, but once i get them off, i will use them. There is also this whole Crest package that you can buy at target or wal mart that comes with the whitestrips, whitening toothpaste, and whitening mouthwash. I think that would be a great buy! Hope it helps!

Is it ok to whiten teeth right before getting braces?
I'd like white teeth behind my braces. Just wondering if that was safe to do.
--------------------
Sure it's safe to do. Why wouldn't it be OK? But, why whiten them to look beautiful and then cover them up with the braces? Most people would do it in the reverse order so that people can admire their straight teeth and the whiteness at the same time.

I asked a friend (dentist) about my teeth whitening systems questions and she recommended ordering a teeth whitening kit online....it's the best thing I've ever used. It works great and really doesn't take that long to whiten. You can also go to your dentist and get the take home gel but the price for those ranges from $500-$2000. Try the whitening kit first to spend a little and see if that works. If you don't like it then visit your doctor for their home gel. You can also try baking soda and peroxide but it takes a very long time to see any type of 'teeth whitening systems' result.

Do they whiten your teeth when you get braces off?
I am just curious to as what the procedure is when you get your braces off. Is it a full day etc? Also do they whiten your teeth or will I have to make an appointment with my dentist on the same day? Also I feel there are still gaps and they braces arent ready to come off? what if I am not happy with the outcome? What about cosmetic veneers? How much am I looking at for just the top front 4 teeth?
--------------------
1) About taking braces off When the braces is taken off, the dentist will use one kind of special plier to take off all your braces, and after that, the dentist will use the special instrument to get off all the extra bond left on your teeth. Usually, this procedure takes about half an hour to 45 mins. But before your braces are taken off, you should make sure one kind of retainer they will supply to you. At the moment, there are two kinds of whitenings: the first one, you need visit the dentist for one hour to whiten the teeth; the second you can get one whitening tray and whitening gel from the dentist, and get the whitening done by yourself at home. What way is the best way to whiten your teeth?
Whitening Strips, Trays, Etc. If you can help me please provide a specific answer
--------------------
I used Crest White Strips this year. My teeth were always a hazy shade of yellowish-white beforehand and I wanted to try to whiten them up. Right now there are about 100 different white strip varieties. Some, like the original, you have to apply a messy strip and leave on for 30 min, others are only 3 minutes and have a nice mouthguard shape. However, the original white strips are $10 or more cheaper than the newer ones and that's saying something seeing how the original ones still cost between $20 and $30. After using the original strips twice a day for 2 weeks I noticed a dramatic difference in my teeth color. I highly recommend them if you can commit to wearing them every day.

Can brushing your teeth more whiten your teeth?
If you brush your teeth more than usual can it whiten them?
--------------------
Sure! Especially if you brush after coffee, cola or anything that can stain your teeth (blueberries). Try using a sensitive toothpaste like Sensodyne if you brush your teeth a lot though. Chewing gum without sugar is helpful after coffee too... Ask your dentist on a next appointment.

Help??? What is the easiest way to whiten your teeth?
What is the best way to whiten your teeth. I started drinking coffee and my teeth are turning yellow any safe home remedies with good results? Terrified of Dentists.
--------------------
It might not be as bad as you think to have a dentist do the procedure for you. Their treatment will be more powerful than home-whitening kits and you will be happier with the results. Dentists are aware that people can be hesitant or scared aroudn them and they are willing to work with you to make you comfortable and to answer any questions you have, so go ahead and call up a dentist and ask them questions about the whitening procedure and see if it's something you are ok about having done.

I know that sun exposure will whiten your teeth. but will the tanning bed have the same effect?

You can use Twilight Teeth,it has a tray that keeps your mouth open and a gel that the uv activates to whiten, but the tanning bed wont whiten your teeth alone. You can get twilight teeth at anyplace online that sells tanning lotion, and probably on ebay
