Teeth whitening?
If I smile in the tanning bed, will the UV rays make my teeth whiter? I know the question is kind of stupid, but the lights in the tanning bed look like the ones the dentist use to whiten teeth. No stupid answers, please.
--------------------
Yes! Twilight Teeth and Hollywood Whites are two products that claim that you can whiten your teeth during your tanning session. Somehow, the Ultra violet heat from the lamps in the bed of the tanning salons activates the Carbamide Peroxide gel, which in turn releases oxygen into the teeth that penetrates the enamel and lifts all types of stains from the teeth's enamel. But just so you know, without the aid such as these two products, the UV rays themselves won't make your teeth whiter.

what is the best way to whiten my teeth without using the services of a dentist. any ideas? what works the best trays or strips?
--------------------
Overall I would say that most of my patient's have had some measure of success with the Crest Whitestrips, some more than others. Our office uses Crest Supreme which are much stronger than what you can buy in a drugstore and don't cost that much more ($60.00 vs $30.00). You can purchase the drugstore version, but do yourself the favor of using them right after you get your teeth cleaned as any staining and buildup (tartar or plaque) will impede their ability to work. Also, don't use fluoride toothpaste before putting the strips on (same reason). Most whitening toothpastes just remove stain on the surfaces of your teeth and therefore are not so effective. Whatever method you use it will not whiten your teeth for life, as you age your teeth will get darker and may need to be whitened again. Good luck! JAMRDH - a dental hygienist Please note (unlike Nate's post) don't brush right before, it is in the instructions!

I want my teeth whitened, i have a local dentist would they be able to do it there...and as i am 18 would it be free?
--------------------
Why would your dental care be free because you are 18? They don't even give away necessary procedures for free, and whitening is an elective/cosmetic procedure. Definitely not free. Added** Pricing will be determined by your region, whether or not your insurance covers any part of the procedure, and your dentist's clinic fees. It's hard to say. Best thing to do is call up your dentist office and ask them to give you a ball park figure of what it will cost to have the procedure done. Good luck.

If you have a filling on your front teeth and you want to get them whitened...your whole tooth not just that part...what can you do so that your teeth will not come out 2 different shades.
--------------------
Is your filling clear or silver? I've had mine done by a dentist making custom trays and using a gel syringe full of bleach/peroxide stuff at night, which was actually at too high a strength I thought because my teeth hurt so bad the days after I do it, but whatever it was worth it. I have several (clear) fillings and neither my dentist nor I didn't even think about that when discussing the bleaching, so apparently it is not a problem at all. I had no problems whatsoever with variations in tooth shades and again have several clear fillings. So I don't think it is a problem. Usually your fillings are up inside the tooth where no one can see them too. But I had no problems. I highly recommend having a dentist make custom impressions of your teeth for fitted trays and using the gel nightly until your doses have run out. It's worked fabulously for me and touch-ups are so easy! From what I've heard about Zoom from my dentist, research and people who have had it, it was a decent but not glowing experience and results either not turning out well or quickly fading. My dentist said he didn't want to buy the machine because it was only a "quick fix" since it didn't get to the root of the discolorations like the bleaching night-after-night-after-night does. Which made sense to me and made me realize that I did want the nightly trays instead of BriteSmile, which I'd wanted to begin with. Also, as far as the bleaching strips go (I've tried them as well), bag that. They DO NOT stay on. At least not on me. They slipped off and were just a mess and waste of $40. So if you're serious about a quality whitening that will last, go to your dentist for trays & Opalescene whitening gel (the brand I used & seems to be the standard). For the impressions and 8 syringers it cost me $300. The most expensive portion of that fee is for the dental impressions to make your mouth trays out of. After your first whitening, a couple months down the road (3-4 if you drink coffee/Coke or smoke; 6 if you don't) you can buy refills for the Opalescene gel online at a great price (I think about $30 for a 6-pack). Definitely go the tried and true professional route. Please feel free to email me if you have any more questions. Good luck to ya!

I want to go get my teeth whitened, only because they would look so much better. But I heard that once you do it, your teeth become extremely sensitive. Have any of you had your teeth whitened? If so, is it worth it? What about products like Crest Whitestrips, as an alternative? Do those actually work?
--------------------
I have not had my teeth professionally whitened, although I did use Crest Whitestrips. I found that Crest Whitestrips work if you follow the instructions on the box: wearing them for the exact amount of time they tell you, the exact amount of days etc. Hope this helps!

what is the best product...the better buy (price and works) for teeth whitening?!
--------------------
I use the Lysterine whitening It takes like 1-2 weeks to work but it works very good. The Lysterine bleaches them just like the dentist does but it not as effective but it is the most effective Ive seen that doesnt screw up your teeth. I wouldnt recommened whitening strips because it whitens them by tearing off your anamal. But the best way (if you have the money that is) let the dentist bleach them it taks 24 hours but it cost like 200 dollars but it works fast and Incredibly well.

In stores what is the best product on the market for Teeth Whitening ?
--------------------
Home teeth-whitening kits If you're looking to spend less money and don't mind some inconvenience, over-the-counter tooth-whitening kits are a safe alternative if they're used according to directions. (Some dental experts have pointed out that consumers tend to overuse teeth whitening products, thus it's always best to consult your dentist.) Crest Whitestrips (*est. $25) come in as far better than other tooth-whitening options in most reviews, even when compared to the pricier Crest Whitestrips Premium (*est. $35) . Note, too, that the original product is now sometimes referred to as Crest Whitestrips Classic. Experts say Crest Whitestrips are convenient and effective, with average whitening of about three shades. You wear these Band-Aid-like strips, which contain 6% peroxide gel, for 30 minutes twice a day for two weeks. Results can last up to six months. Both testers and consumers say they noticed whiter teeth after only a few days of use, and contributors to Amazon.com are full of praise for Crest Whitestrips, saying they're definitely worth the money. However, testers from The Wall Street Journal found only a half-shade improvement and didn't like how much the strips made them drool. We didn't find any reviews of a newer version of Crest Whitestrips with 14% peroxide (*est. $50 to $100) that is available only through dentists. If you don't have time to sit and wait for a strip to do its work, you can whiten at night while you sleep. Colgate Simply White Night (*est. $15) is a paint-on liquid tooth-whitener that you wear overnight for two weeks. The tiny brush can fit into small places between uneven teeth that might be unreachable by a strip. Results can last up to six months. Some testers say they didn't like having to keep their mouth open while the paint-on liquid dried, but according to the manufacturer, drying is no longer necessary. If you prefer daytime use, but like the idea of a brush versus a strip, Colgate's Simply White (*est. $10) is designed to be applied twice a day for two weeks. The teeth-whitening gel is completely absorbed so you don't have to worry about rinsing. When it comes of over-the-counter whitening products, experts and testers prefer teeth-whitening strips and paint-on whiteners to over-the-counter mouth-tray whiteners. Since the mouth trays are one-size-fits-all, the trays can be ill fitting. Two reviewers found Ultra Plus+White (*est. $12) to be ineffective and note that the foam mouth tray is extremely uncomfortable, even causing a sore throat in multiple testers. Another novelty to hit the market is tooth-whitening gum. Trident White (*est. $1.50/per pack) doesn't contain peroxide, but it does have a "patented technology" that supposedly breaks up surface stains. To see an effect, you need to chew two pieces for at least twenty minutes four times a day -- not a problem if you're a habitual gum chewer. But if you're just looking for a way to whiten your teeth, you're better off picking a more convenient option. Testers at Good Housekeeping do claim to see one shade of improvement after chewing whitening gum for six weeks. However, this is a good place to point out that some studies have found a large placebo effect with tooth whiteners, noting that people given a sham "whitener" claim to see an improvement. Plus, a product containing peroxide can produce a better result in only two weeks. We checked Amazon.com and Epinions to find out what consumers have to say about over-the-counter tooth whitening methods. Crest Whitestrips wins the best comments for convenience and effectiveness. The most common complaints for all tooth-whitening products are sensitivity (which goes away after stopping product use) and "goopy" or bad-tasting gels. Important Features: Teeth-whitening products Experts say to remember the following when choosing a tooth whitener: * The ADA recommends discussing the options with your dentist and choosing a dentist-supervised whitening plan. * Bleaching effectiveness is directly related to percent of peroxide and length of time it's in contact with your teeth. Over-the-counter tooth whitening products generally contain no more than 6% peroxide. Professional teeth whitening processes can use up to 43% peroxide. * Bleaching works best for yellow teeth, not as well for gray teeth. * Crowns, fillings and dental veneers aren't affected by lightening products -- something to keep in mind if you have a prominent crown or bridge. * Some experts say pregnant women should avoid tooth whiteners. While there are no specific studies to suggest there's a risk to the fetus, some dentists note that minor complications, such as swallowing a small amount of the chemicals, might be a concern to fetal development. While some experts insist that bleaching is safe for everyone, other say pregnant women are better off waiting until after they've given birth. Baby boomers have become a huge market for teeth whiteners because teeth yellow naturally as we age. The effect can be exacerbated by smoking, as well as by drinking coffee, tea and red wine. The most effective teeth-whitening agents use peroxide (hydrogen or carbamide) to bleach the deep layers of teeth, where toothpastes can't reach. The whitening process usually requires daily application for up to two weeks, but light therapy can be used in the dentist's office along with peroxide to speed things up, shortening the bleaching process to as little as one hour. Experts say bleaching works best for yellow stains, and that gray teeth, which can result from certain antibiotics, are much harder to whiten. A recent fear that the peroxide used in tooth whiteners is linked to oral cancer has been refuted by research, and experts say there's no danger as long as tooth whiteners are used as directed. Teeth whitening can cause tooth and gum sensitivity, but experts say this is a normal side effect that disappears after treatment ends. Many of the reviewers represented in our All Reviews chart test one sample from each of the different types of teeth-whitening kits and services and then determine which method produces the greatest effect with the least inconvenience. We also looked to research abstracts presented at the annual General Session of the International Association for Dental Research, where dental scientists tested specific whitening products (primarily Crest and Colgate) against each other. The manufacturers sponsored some of these studies. In those cases, we found it interesting that the study result almost always favored the manufacturer funding the study. However, the findings did show that the effectiveness of tooth-whitening products depends largely on the percentage of peroxide in the product combined with the length of time the product is in contact with teeth, which is the same conclusion drawn by other experts and reviewers.

Does anyone know any teeth whitening products that you can buy that whiten your teeth from chemist/shop in the UK?
--------------------
One popular tooth whitening product that you can use is bleaching solution that contains peroxide for bleaching tooth enamel. The bleaching agent in these products is usually carbamide peroxide, which is available in 10, 16 and 22 percent concentrations. Whiteners that contain peroxide typically come in gel form and are placed in a mouthguard. Some products are used twice a day for 2 weeks while others are intended for overnight use for a 1 to 2 weeks period. If you can obtain the bleaching solution from your dentist, he will be able to construct a custom mouth guard to fit your teeth precisely. Currently, the American Dental Association endorses only dentist-dispensed home-use percent carbamide peroxide tray-applied gels. In addition to bleaching solution, whitening strips are increasingly being used as a preferred tooth whitening product. For instance, you are now able to get your hands on a set of Crest Whitestrips Supreme from any convenience store. The flexible, invisible strips are coated with an enamel-safe tooth bleaching gel. To whiten your teeth, you simply place the strips on your teeth and wear them for about 15 to 30 minutes each day. After a period of about 21 days, you should be able to see a significant difference on the brightness of your teeth. For other effective home teeth whitening solutions, you may wish to read about them here : http://teeth-whitening.my-fashion-house.

HELP! Does anyone know of any home remidies for teeth whitening?
My teeth are pretty yellow and i have pale skin so it exaggerates them and makes them look worse! Can any body help me pleeeaaassseee?
--------------------
Brush and floss regularly to reduce or prevent stains. Step 2. Try whitening toothpastes. Though heavily advertised, these only partially whiten teeth and don't provide a complete remedy. Make sure the toothpaste has the American Dental Association (ADA) seal of approval and has been clinically proved to whiten teeth effectively. Very few whitening toothpastes have undergone any type of clinical trial, and ones that are too abrasive can damage teeth or make them very sensitive. Step 3. Get regular dental cleanings, which remove many food and tobacco stains. No amount of cleaning will remove the severe staining left by tetracycline or systemic disease because these pigments lie inside the tooth; you'll have to take more aggressive measures against these. Step 4. Consider the two options, in-office and at-home treatments, for bleaching your teeth. A dentist performs in-office treatments by coating the teeth with a bleaching agent, then using periodic flashes of light to activate the solution. Treatments last 30 to 60 minutes, and the complete procedure often requires several appointments. In at-home treatments, patients wear a mouth guard fitted with bleaching gel 2 hours a day for two weeks, depending on the severity of staining. Step 5. Think about getting veneers, which are custom-made shells bonded to the teeth with resins. This procedure often requires removing a small amount of tooth structure and is the most invasive, as well as the most expensive, treatment option. Good Luck :)

Which dentist office teeth whitening procedure to get? Zoom 2 or Opalescence Boost?
I'm confused on if I should get Zoom whitening for $400 with customized take home trays also, of pay $150 for the opalescence boost with un-customized take home touch ups. I'm leaning towards opalescence boost because of the price and since I'm a working student and the money could be used otherwise. Thanks guys

Opalescence Boost. You will have the same teeth whitening results whether you have professional teeth whitening In-Office or teeth whitening at home by yourself. This is because whitening teeth with peroxide is simply a function of the cumulative exposure of the person's teeth to the whitener. Using a low concentration peroxide over a series of individual treatments at home by yourself or a much higher concentration of peroxide over a much shorter time frame In-office can both be expected to produce the same result. After teeth whitening treatment, you will have on average 5 - 10 shades lighter. Choose the cheap of course. the site give me a lot of help, u can visit it. http://www.teethwhiteningbest.com/teeth-

Without whitening strips, what's the best way to whiten teeth?
Just curious! Oh and if someone can answer this, I'm confused, my teeth have these spots on the front ones that are alot whiter than the surrounding areas, in fact, its on alot of my teeth! How can I fix this?

The most common option used as homemade teeth whitening agent is baking soda, which has a mild bleaching action. Given that it is used in baking, it also implies safety. Baking soda is sprinkled on the toothbrush, and teeth then cleaned using a gentle, circular motion. Care should still be taken though, especially for people with gum sensitivity. Old wives' recipes often state that a paste of baking powder, a little salt, and a few drops of white vinegar, works effectively. Salt, used exactly as baking soda, is also touted as being a good teeth whitener. However, it might just be its osmosis, dehydrating action that makes teeth appear whiter, since dehydrated teeth look whiter. Lemon juice is often used, but it had high acidic levels, so teeth can weaken in the long run. Other natural, fruit options regard rubbing the inside of an orange peel on the teeth. A strawberry cut in half and the inside rubbed on teeth also works. Mashed strawberry can also be applied with a toothbrush. Apple cider vinegar is also said to be effective. Dried orange rind, and walnut bark, is also good. For other effective home teeth whitening solutions, you may wish to read about them here : http://teeth-whitening.my-fashion-house.

Question about teeth whitening during pregnancy?
I've read that its a no no but I'm wondering why?
--------------------
Hi! The reason I do NOT whiten teeth during pregnancy is often the gums become swollen and slighly more sensitive than when you are not. The acid etch can make this very uncomfortable and you will be unhappy. If you want to, use a whitening toothpaste now and treat yourself after the baby is here. Some people have no issues, but why take a chance. I just feel a few more months is not a big deal to wait to be sure you donot have sensitivity and any pain. GOOD LUCK with the baby!!!!~M

Good teeth whitening products at home?
what are some good teeth whitening thats under a hundred dollars and wont give me sensitivity??
--------------------
Crest White strips are great, I've been using them for about 4 months, but I don't use them everyday. My teeth have gotten much whiter. The regular ones work just as well as the really expensive ones, the expensive ones (about $50) are just faster. The normal ones are around $30 I think, and my teeth have been fine for sensitivity, it doesn't bother me at all. Don't use the Listerine-quick dissolve strips! I got a free sample of them and I would never use them again. They are impossible to get out of the packaging and they stick together, and its really hard to un-stick them. Also, once they're on, you can't get them off, you pretty much have to wait until they dissolve. And whats really disgusting is that, since they dissolve, you are eating the chemicals used to remove stains from your teeth! I felt really sick after I used them. Good luck!

What teeth-whitening strips is the best?
someone who has had experience with such would be best. also i need one reasonably priced.

Listerene!! The ones that dissolve to your teeth! A few weeks back I got a free sample of an upper and lower strip in the mail, put them on, and forgot about them and went downstairs to talk to my sister and she's like "what the heckkk! Your teeth- their SUUUPER white!!!!!" lol Also, Crest work. *Warning, they taste funnnny. Especially the Listerine. But well worth the taste. lol. I described them tasting like weird chlorine lol* But make sure you do not leave them on for more then the directed amount of time after a few times of use. Gah, I did once, (the Crest ones) for like 2hrs lol, and I had the most seeennnsitiveee teeth EVERRR. I though I was going to cry just eating cereal. lol Also, try to use whitening mouthwash and toothpaste for maximum results. and Trident white gum!!!! Worked for me!

Extreme pain in gums after whitening teeth?
Just finished three nights of Nite White treatment on my teeth, and my gums are hurting LIKE HELL. They're extremely sensitive; the pain is the kind you get when cold hair runs through your teeth, except it's constant. I Took 2 Advil a couple hours ago, nothing changed. 1. Is this normal? 2. How long can I expect this to last? I'm done with the treatment so I won't be adding to it.
--------------------
it is normal, its the nerve damage from the peroxide. it hurts like crazy, ive been thru that many times. (im a teeth whitening junkie) haha the pain will probally settle by tommorow, stay away from hot or cold food, try room temp. itll help dull it till then! feel bettter!!

What's The Best Teeth Whitening Toothpaste?
What teeth whitening toothpaste gives you the best results? Thanks!!
--------------------
All the toothpastes do is remove the everyday stains that occur from drinking coffee, etc. They don't remove older, more permanent staining. I beleive that colgate's range is the best at achieving what they say they do, however non of the pastes on their own will give that bright white smile. They are best for maintaining another whitening system.

Here are many ways that you can whitening your teeth! For home remedies. Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to form toothpaste. Brush the teeth regularly with this paste. It will remove all stains in a month. Use bicarbonate of soda 5 minutes before brushing the teeth with normal toothpaste in the morning. This is a good home remedy for teeth whitening. Rubbing the bark of walnut tree on the teeth helps in removing all stains from the teeth. Strawberries are considered natural teeth whiteners. Rubbing the teeth with strawberries daily will remove all the stains. If you would like a suggestion on tooth whitening gel, here's something for you! Crest Night Effects Whitening Gel (about $18.00) allows you to remove stains while you sleep. The tooth whitening system has a fresh, wintergreen flavor. After fourteen days of sleeping with this product on your teeth, you will wake up to a vibrant smile. You should see results in two days, although there are reports of tooth whitening results in one night More on http://www.myinformationz.info/teethwhit
