What are the best home teeth whitening kits on the market?

Most toothpastes use one of two things to help whiten your teeth, coarse material, like baking soda, or a mild bleeching agent of one kind or another. A lot of stains are fairly close to the surface and these toothpastes will do the job on them quite well. But, for real whitening you need something more powerful, and that is simply carbamide peroxide, usually in the 22% range is best. In the past this was only available from the dentist but you can get it all day on the internet. When you go to the dentist they will do one of two things, either offer a "kit" which has the dental, ie, tooth tray, along with the peroxide gel, or you can up the ante and go for the fastest and whitest of white smiles and get zoom laser treatments, but that will cost you a few bucks. My best guess is that the dentist would charge you around $200 for the tray and the peroxide gel, but you can get it yourself from various sites for $30 to $45. It is safe and very effective. You can either use the "mold at home" type dental trays or you can get the impression kit and send off for a more professional "custom" tray which may cost just a little more. Either way it works. If you find that the 22% concentration makes your teeth sensitive, cut back on usage, it will fade away quickly. Or you can go for the lesser strength product. Just follow the directions and don't go overboard and try to brighten your teeth by wearing it for 24hrs straight and your teeth won't get too sensitive. Over the counter I don't think you can even get close to this kind of performance. I think the crest strips work about the best for that category from what I have read. But, I have used the 22% on and off over the years and it works great. Just do a quick google for carbamide peroxide and you will find lots of sites that carry it. Good luck.

You need to go to somebody really reputable. My freind is a beautician and offers this service, she has undergone years of training. It can be really dangerous, if the chemical gets into your blood stream (which is really easy via the gums) it can cause adverse health problems. Best wishes,

im pretty sure they do i haven't regularly used them but my sister and mom did. the ones they use are remembrant or crest. good luck! ohhh and also you can get your teeth professionally whitened but that costs a lot of money.

Best Teeth Whitening Method?
Alright, so i just got half my braces off, and am soon to get the rest off. I'm getting them off when i have spring break, so I want to go back to school with a dazzling white smile. My teeth are like an off white, and i really want them to shine! My mom doesnt want me to use Crest White Strips because they wear off my enamel (mighta spelled that wrong). Also, if you can bare it eat some lemons! Lemons have citric acid in them which is like a bleaching agent... some girls even use it on their hair to lighten it. Will tooth-whitening strips hurt if you have a cavity or exposed nerve?
I doubt I have either of those things, as I just had a great check-up. But I've had problems with tooth sensitivity and gum recession in the past. I remember reading years ago that that tooth-whitening stuff that you brush onto your teeth (I'm not sure if they make it anymore) REALLY hurts if you have tooth problems that you don't know about. Is the same true for the whitening strips?

Yes, if you have gum recession or sensitve teeth you will have pain; however, go slow, maybe skip a day in between. The dental assistants at my dentist say they take Tylenol after they do whitening. I don't think they have the paint-on stuff anymore, but my dentist recommends Crest Whitening Strips. .

Clinic? sometimes there light doesn't work.. my uncle did that and it made his teeth more yellow. I think there is a reason why companies are coming out with the stripes and stuff like that. Personally I think you should go with the Listerine Stripes. They dissolve in your mouth. You can use them anywhere and anytime!

I'm getting my braces off on Monday and I really wanna whiten my teeth for school, but when i was getting my teeth cleaned the dentist said that you cant whiten your teeth for about 6 months afterwards?? is that true? and does anyone know why??!!!

i wouldn't whiten your teeth if you are under 18 because if you are younger, the nerves of your teeth are still close to the surface enamel so whitening them could damage the nerve endings and cause possible tooth loss later on in life, or maybe just dental problems down the road. use whitening tooth paste 2 to 3 times a day though, and floss. good luck!

im not sure what the best is but i can tell you that i didn't like crest at all. it has to stay in your mouth for 15 mins and its very uncomfortable and makes you salivate alot and if you swallow it tastes absolutly disgusting and if you spit you spit out the strip. i was not pleased with that product at all. my suggestion is to go with the dissolving ones, i havent tried them but they sound alot better, im going to try them myself

i was wondering what method is used to whiten teeth at an NHS dentist? i know i have to pay but im not sure what method they use ?

If you are definitely having them whitened, and not just cleaned, then this service is not available under the NHS, and will be done on a private basis (NHS dentists are allowed to do private work). The dentist can then use whatever product he/she feels suitable. There are many different products and methods available, you will need to discuss this with the dentist, and also the cost, as this is not covered by the nhs
