Do whitening strips weaken your teeth?
Some people have told me that whitening strips or bleach trays weaken your teeth. They also make your teeth burn? HELP! Thank you SO much to all who answer, I am forever grateful! God bless you all!
--------------------
Sensitivity comes from the drying of the enamel during the bleaching process. This can be lessened by using fluoride treatments or bleaching with a higher concentration for a shorter amount of time. You can get a fluoride gel OTC (over-the-counter) at most pharmacies or your dentist. You can brush it on your teeth, or you can put it in bleaching trays or any boil and bite tray for that matter. If you have any questions, you can contact your dentist to make sure you follow their recommendations and to make sure that they approve of you doing this. Whitening strips and bleach trays are safe for use, but like anything else, using them improperly can cause damage. It's best to follow your dentists recommendations. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Teeth Whitening - Baking Soda Method Help?
I have considered trying the baking soda and water method to whiten my teeth, all I need to know now is how much water and how much baking soda? And would it damage my teeth?
--------------------
If you use the baking soda only add enough water to make a paste, like toothpaste. I've done it.

Are teeth-whitening methods permanent?
I made the mistake of neglecting my team for most of my childhood and teen years, and now at 19 I'm looking into methods to whiten my teeth, such as in-office bleaching, bleach trays, White Strips, etc. Does anyone have any advice on these different products, but more importantly, are they permanent?
--------------------
teeth are LESS white due to coffee, tea, smoking, red wine, and just food. So AFTER bleaching, if you do any of these, your teeth will darken up a bit. I give my patients the bleaching tray; I've been using the same pack of bleach syringes myself since 2002 (as I only touch mine up ever 3-6 months or so). That way you can just keep doing it. If you need work, be advised...esp if front teeth need white fillings. If poss, do the bleaching FIRST then the dentist can do the work to MATCH where the bleaching got to. if you do the white fillings first, and then bleach, your fillings will not lighten!! you could get the dr to do the fillings really light and then HOPE to bleach the rest of the teeth to that level, but that's a bit shady. -In office is really expensive cuz you're taking up chair time. I don't do this, and don't recommend it unless you're like "Oh, i'm getting married next week; what do do?" -Trays, I think are the best, as mentioned above. -crest strips are OK; you may notice a difference but not always super dramatic. they are better for maintaining whitening after you had it done.

Have you used the KoR Deep Whitening System for your teeth? About how much did it cost?
I have tetracycline stained teeth and its hard to imagine bleaching at night for months on end.
--------------------
A new bleaching technique has emerged called Deep Bleaching. The name is coined after the inventor, Rod Kurthy, a full-time practicing dentist who spent hundreds of hours in clinical testing of this technique. Rod Kurthy is also a primary clinical product tester for several major dental product manufacturers. The Deep bleach technique is so powerful, it can whiten tetracycline stained teeth and, in some occasions, even veneered teeth This procedure involves two power bleaching appointments a week apart, and a home tray in between. For the power appointments, a powerful 9% hydrogen peroxide solution is used and a 16% carbamide peroxide solution is used for the home tray. Depending on the case on the desires of the dentist, on the second visit either the same 9% Hydrogen Peroxide is used, or DeepBleachingMax is used, which is 27% Hydrogen Peroxide. D-Senz-2 is applied after the power bleaching process to help de-sensitize the teeth and seal them from decreased rebound. However, like any teeth whitening procedure, teeth sensitivity is expected with this process. Remember, even with over-the-counter bleaching products, acute painful sensitivity can become an issue. The split-arch clinical studies showed that nearly all felt sensitivity on the side without desensitizers, but two out of three felt no sensitivity on the other side where the desensitizers were used. The one out of three that did feel sensitivity only felt between 8% - 10% of what they felt on the other side of their mouths. But it is very important for any reader to understand that this does not mean there will never be pain. Some patients are so sensitive that they can't even handle whitestrips on their teeth for than two or three minutes without pain. So even at only 10% of the typical sensitivity, these super-sensitive patients may still feel some dismofot. No light is necessary with this technique. Tests have been done with and without light activation and no differences have been seen. To support this contention, researchers at CRA have consistently stated that bleaching is a function of the concentration of the bleach and the length of time that the bleach stays on the teeth. Additionally, they contend that a light has minimal to no effect on the bleaching process. In some cases, porcelain veneers can be revitalized with the deep bleach technique. Sometimes the tooth structure under a veneer can darken over time (over 10 years) which can cause a significant shade difference. A cosmetic dentist usually replaces the veneer when this happens. However, since natural tooth structure is accessible through the back of a veneeer, it is possible to create "brighter" looking veneers with deep bleaching. Rod's Deep Bleach technique is still very new to the dental community. Not every dentist offers this service, so do your research. Expect to pay up to $1,500 for this procedure. The system is now being sold under the name KoR Whitening Deep Bleaching

I am about to get my braces off what is the best whitening system for teeth?
i get them off in 4 days then in about 6 days i have to say my graduation speech...I have to look my best :)
--------------------
Perfect timing right? :D Well, there's a natural way to do it. But I think you need to do it 2-3 times a week, so it might not work in time for your Graduation. :) You can put baking soda on your toothbrush with your toothpaste & brush for 2-3 minutes. Then spit, rinse and whatever. :D The most effective way to whiten your teeth is using Crest White Strips. :D They work really well! :D I highly recommend them! (:

teeth whitening-baking soda or baking power?
what do you use to whiten your teeth.. baking powder or baking soda? people tell me both but which one works better?!
--------------------
Neither...both are just abrasive and over time will actually harm our teeth. If you really want to bleach, you are going to have to use bleaching agents of which their are several to choose from. Good Luck

Question about veneers and teeth whitening?
I'm planning on getting my two upper middle front teeth fixed with porcelin veneers. The rest of the teeth i'm planning on having whitened. Here's my question The dentist will whiten the teeth (hopefully as white as possible) then choose the colour for the two veneers to match the rest of the teeth. Ok, but what will happen lets say a year from now when the teeth whitening stops losing its effect and the teeth start getting a little darker, will the two front veneers stay white and be a different colour from the rest of the teeth? That's what I don't understand. Will I have to continually keep getting my teeth whitened so that they dont look different from the veneers? Not initially, but overtime, will I just continually be having to deal with a balancing act of getting the two front teeth and the rest of them to match?
--------------------
You are following the correct procedure-bleaching and then the veneers But you pose a good question. After the teeth are bleached you will be able to keep them from turning darker with the use of whitening toothpastes. Also you can be provided with a little "touch up" kit that companies make that will quickly and effectively whiten them up a bit. So I would not worry about them looking bad in a year or two because of the veneers color stability. Good luck to you.

crest white strips teeth whitening...?
i'm on day two of white strips premium and was just wondering if anyone has had good results after day 7? also, when i'm whitening my teeth i usually end up swallowing some of the gel on the strip. is that harmful? it tastes awful but for some reason i can't avoid it.
--------------------
I don't think they would be legally able to sell anything that is harmful when ingested, spesh when you've no choice but stick it in your mouth. I don't use that brand but I've been whitening my teeth for years and it takes a while to take effect but you'll notice soon. Best Wishes Kez x

Dental Advice: Teeth Whitening?
I would like help of the yahoo answers community but would particularly appreciate some answers from Dental technicians? I have always had yellow teeth; I clean them but have never had white teeth. I enquired about this with my Dentist about having them whitened, and he started giving me some prices
yes they were steep in the region of £700. I have read good reports about Boots Teeth Whitening Programme which is available over the counter. The one report says that the instructions mention that, don't use if you have gum disease, gingivitis. I have also read this for myself as well. And that is the problem my teeth bleed quite bad when I clean them. The top ones are ok at the front but the molars bleed at the back. The bottoms are quite bad. The gums are receding in the inside/back of the bottom teeth; I hasten to say that they are not lose. I want to keep my teeth for as long as possible and don't want to accelerate/make the gums recede any more than what they already are! Can anyone advise of/if this will make my gum disease/gingivitis any worse than what they already are. I really do want to whiten my teeth just a little bit; I don't want a Hollywood smile. Thank you
--------------------
first you should discuss with your dentist the conditions of your teeth. for possible gingivitis or gum disease but you gum wont get worse if you decide to whiten your teeth. my suggestion is that you rinse your mouth with warm water put in a teaspoon of salt and rinse your mouth for a week it will help your gum to heal and stop the bleeding. for the whitening I think you should use the crest whitening strip it has less concentration from the regular gel that dental office use. because if you have receding gum your teeth will be extremely sentitivity using the whitening gel from your dentist or laser.. you should try first with the crest whitening to see if your are going to be able to tolerate the whitening material.

teeth whitening /stains ? help?
I've always had these weird stains on my teeth. the stains are only on like 5 or 6 of my front teeth. i've had them since i was a baby....most of my teeth grew in with the stains on them already. my mom said it had something to do wih me having to take iron supplements or something when i was infant. they aren't like brown stains, like they don't look like smoking stains...they are a whitish yellow and some of them cover almost my whole tooth. some of them just look like a spot or stripe that was painted on . i was just wondering if anyone could give me ideas on how to make them less noticeable or whiten them a bit. i've trip a few store-bought whitening products like crest but they just whiten around the stains, they don't actually get rid of the stains.help???

I can relate to you. I had the same problem all of my life. My parents never thought it was that big of a deal so I had to wait till I was an adult to get it fixed. I was told the same thing about the medication as a child was what caused this. Mine were just the front 2 teeth. I went to my dentist and they whitened them at the office with some kind of laser or something. It did cost some money but it was sooooo worth it! I had it done over 8 years ago and I still have a beautiful white smile! Talk to your dentist and they can help you!

Whitening Teeth, Help!?
I was wondering if anyone knew of a teeth whitening product that ACTUALLY works. I go to the dentist and get my teeth cleaned every now and then, however I just want to know of a product I capable of using at home that will keep my teeth white. As of now I use Crest toothpaste and I floss daily. Eh, I'm kind of obsessed (exaggeration) with having my teeth perfect, straight, white , etc. Just looking for a bit of advice. Thanks!

Teeth Whitening Kits?
What are the best home teeth whitening kits on the market?
--------------------
Most toothpastes use one of two things to help whiten your teeth, coarse material, like baking soda, or a mild bleeching agent of one kind or another. A lot of stains are fairly close to the surface and these toothpastes will do the job on them quite well. But, for real whitening you need something more powerful, and that is simply carbamide peroxide, usually in the 22% range is best. In the past this was only available from the dentist but you can get it all day on the internet. When you go to the dentist they will do one of two things, either offer a "kit" which has the dental, ie, tooth tray, along with the peroxide gel, or you can up the ante and go for the fastest and whitest of white smiles and get zoom laser treatments, but that will cost you a few bucks. My best guess is that the dentist would charge you around $200 for the tray and the peroxide gel, but you can get it yourself from various sites for $30 to $45. It is safe and very effective. You can either use the "mold at home" type dental trays or you can get the impression kit and send off for a more professional "custom" tray which may cost just a little more. Either way it works. If you find that the 22% concentration makes your teeth sensitive, cut back on usage, it will fade away quickly. Or you can go for the lesser strength product. Just follow the directions and don't go overboard and try to brighten your teeth by wearing it for 24hrs straight and your teeth won't get too sensitive. Over the counter I don't think you can even get close to this kind of performance. I think the crest strips work about the best for that category from what I have read. But, I have used the 22% on and off over the years and it works great. Just do a quick google for carbamide peroxide and you will find lots of sites that carry it. Good luck.

If you need an inexpensive method, Arm and Hammer Baking soda works well. Just pour a little in your hand, wet your toothbrush and then dip the toothbrush into the arm and hammer and brush your teeth with it. Afterwards you'll still need to brush your teeth with toothpaste to freshen your breath. It works really well.
