My dentist told me that you shouldn't use baking soda more than once a week because it is abrasive to the teeth and you are gradually wearing the enamel away. You'd be better using a peroxide based bleaching kit.

Is there a natural way to whiten teeth?
I'd like to have whiter teeth, but I don't have the money for over-the-counter products. (and I heard they don't work) Is there a fruit or some kind of food that will whiten teeth naturally?

First they brush your teeth with a prophylactic paste to clean it, wash it off and dry your teeth and gums. They then place a cheek retractor so that your lips don't touch your teeth and gums. Once your teeth are properly isolated, they mix the solution then place it on your teeth. Depending on the kit they use, they will use a light machine or simply just place the mixed solution on your teeth. After they simply just suck out the solution, then wash your teeth and pull out the gum barrier. The entire procedure should last about an hour to two hours. Discomfort can be from your mouth being open during that time and you can't really move alot. So you have to be patient. Some patients feel sensitivity during the whitening process but it is bearable. You can take a pain reliever before the procedure. Patients usually feel sensitivty one to two days after and can't eat anything that can stain their teeth like red wine, tomato based pasta sauces, etc.. my father's a dentist, and to be quite honest the only answer is to brush and floss regularly. if you really want your teeth to look their whitest, go to your local drug store and find the teeth whitening sugar free gum. by using all of those products, you may be getting a whiter shine fo your teeth but you're also damaging them. the chemicals used in those tooth whiteners also weaken your teeth, perhaps causing you to lose your teeth sooner than others. the best thing to do is buy the gum, brush your teeth twice a day, floss whenever you can (dont go too hard on the gums!) and in a few days (3-7) your teeth will be at its best state.

The best way to do this (it works for me) is to stuff a washcloth or bandanna into your mouth. Don't use off-brand stuff or it may yellow your teeth. And don't use colored correction fluid, only white. Please do not try the idea of mixing peroxide and baking soda. That is how they made mustard gas in World War I.

I've been using clorox and baking soda to make a teeth whitening paste. I guess this is a bad idea.?
My grandmother showed me this procedure 20 years ago. After mixing the paste im very careful and only spread on my teeth. I let stand for about 5 minutes then rinse mouth out several times. Like i said! im very careful! U can burn your gums if not careful. anyway, is this something i should stop doing? Whitening my Teeth; please help !?
I just wanted to know; when I put 2 listerine whitening strips on my teeth (1 for top teeth 1 for bottom teeth), am I supposed to swallow what melts? Because when I leave it there, the wetness of my mouth usually makes it melt and then I'm basically forced to swallow it. Or am I supposed to like keep my mouth dry?

Well I would just try to keep my mouth as dry as possible before putting them on since your spit is what wears the strips down after a while, which is why you take them off since they don't work anymore. But it should be fine to swallow a little.

I want to get my teeth whitened, whats the most effective and long-lasting procedure for in-office dentistry?

I've used Crest White Strips a few times now and they always work great. You might experience a little bit of sensitivity, but for me it wasn't anything to complain about, it's harmless and quickly goes away whereas your teeth remain white for years :)
