Is sodium bicarbonate good for whitening teeth?

If so, how should I apply it.
--------------------
Brushing with sodium bicarbonate will help remove surface stains. However, it will do absolutely nothing to remove internal pigmentation that is present deep in your enamel and dentin. For that, you need to do Carbamide Peroxide bleaching that actually penetrates into your enamel and dentin (in-office procedure, whitening trays or the whitening strips). Some intrinsic stains such as tetracycline antibiotic staining are VERY difficult to remove. (dark bands that resulted when one takes tetracycline antibiotics during early childhood). Hope this helps.

Teeth whitening at home?

I really want my teeth whitened... i cannot afford the professional denist whitening... can anyone recommend or suggest a good teeth whitening kit for at home. I live in the UK... and i was after something that isnt too expensive.
--------------------
Honestly?...don't waste your money on tooth whitening products from the chemist. The results are too subtle to notice and do not last long. The dentist is expensive but you can purchase the same formula online in kit form for a lot cheaper. As long as you apply the formula properly and according to instruction you will get a good result.Do not use a formula stronger that 17% as that is the maximum a dentist will use.If you smoke you are wasting you're time though as you're teeth will not stay white for long and overuse of the whitening gel will damage your teeth.

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR TEETH WHITENING?

i used crest white strips, and then like a month later they went back to going yellow, its really annoying and i think they made my teeth sensitive which ones do you think make them NOT SO SENSITIVE? toothpaste too? thanks a lot, :)
--------------------
Step 1: Brush and floss regularly to reduce or prevent stains. Step 2: Try whitening toothpastes. Though heavily advertised, these only partially whiten teeth and don't provide a complete remedy. Make sure the toothpaste has the American Dental Association (ADA) seal of approval and has been clinically proved to whiten teeth effectively. Very few whitening toothpastes have undergone any type of clinical trial, and ones that are too abrasive can damage teeth or make them very sensitive. Step 3: Get regular dental cleanings, which remove many food and tobacco stains. No amount of cleaning will remove the severe staining left by tetracycline or systemic disease because these pigments lie inside the tooth; you'll have to take more aggressive measures against these. Step 4: Consider the two options, in-office and at-home treatments, for bleaching your teeth. A dentist performs in-office treatments by coating the teeth with a bleaching agent, then using periodic flashes of light to activate the solution. Treatments last 30 to 60 minutes, and the complete procedure often requires several appointments. In at-home treatments, patients wear a mouth guard fitted with bleaching gel 2 hours a day for two weeks, depending on the severity of staining. Step 5: Think about getting veneers, which are custom-made shells bonded to the teeth with resins. This procedure often requires removing a small amount of tooth structure and is the most invasive, as well as the most expensive, treatment option. OR YOU CAN TRY STRAWBERRIES! ( Natural way) You need: 1 ripe strawberry 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Directions: Crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking soda until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. Leave on for 5 minutes, then brush thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry–baking soda mix. Rinse. (A little floss will help get rid of any strawberry seeds.)

How much does it cost to have a dentist whiten your teeth?

How much does teeth-whitening cost through a dentist? Will any insurance cover the procedure? Is it safe? What are some easy (fool-proof) alternatives and how much do they cost?
--------------------
I got quoted around 200 dollars but there are different procedures depending on the type of staining, the type of treatment they use, where you live, etc. Insurance will NOT cover it because it is a cosmetic procedure. Safe... ehhh some say it is, some say it isn't, generally yes if you get it done at the dentist, but it can weaken your enamel. Mix baking soda with peroxide.. You can get a small box of baking soda for under a dollar and a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide for the same. Mix it into a paste (or just dip your brush in the peroxide and then in the baking soda ) and brush with it. DONT swallow it, then brush your teeth normally. It won't make your teeth sensitive like some other whiteners, and it's cheap, but don't do it more than once or twice a week (don't do it every day) as it really just removes stains and once they're gone, they're gone, you can't really get much whiter. Remember teeth aren't naturally white, they're off white, so you can't really get them WHITE without damaging them. People you see with super white teeth... They're teeth are actually very unhealthy. Good luck!

Fast and affective teeth whitening?

What is the cheapest, quickest way of whitening severely stained teeth when brushing alone doesn't help? Are there any products on the market that ACTUALLY work and works fast?
--------------------
If your teeth are severely stained, you need to get them cleaned professionally. The cleaning will remove much of the stain, and you can speak to the dentist or dental hygienist about your options of whitening. This doesn't mean that you have to get a professional whitening from them (it's very expensive), but you can ask them if your teeth would accept whitening. You may have staining caused by an abnormality that occurred while your teeth were being formed; if this is the case, you would have to ask the dentist about options you have to make your teeth look whiter, or he/she may suggest veneers. It's better to have a professional cleaning and ask their opinion on what you can do than to rush out and buy whitening products that can cause sensitivity that may not even work, and if they do, they're probably just going to mask the problem for a short time. If you do see a professional and they say you could accept whitening, I know that crest whitestrips worked for me when I was getting married, but I did the ones that took 2 weeks. I had really sensitive teeth when I was done, but I know that if you get the ones that take one week you're going to have VERY sensitive teeth and it's not comfortable at all. Just before christmas, I was able to get a mouth tray that conformed to the shape of my mouth and a whitening paste that had fluoride in it. The paste didn't cause any sensitivity whatsoever to my teeth, and the tray was cut so that the whitening product didn't touch my gums and cause pain (which the crest whitestrips go right over your gums, which make them sore). Of course, I got this mouth tray and whitening paste from my school and it was free for me, but it worked great. Some dental hygiene schools will offer whitening for very cheap compared to dental offices, so that's another option. Good luck to you, I hope you can find something that works!

Whitening stripes on teeth with white spots?

I have calcium deposits on some of my teeth on the bottom of them (not noticeable unless your close) but I want my teeth to be whiter, should I use crest whitening stripes or get them done professionally? or would the spots be REALLY noticeable?
--------------------
This is a very tough question. There are two ways to get rid of the white spots: #1: Bleach the teeth even more As you lighten the remaining tooth structure, the contrast fades. The white spot(s) may appear to fade away. Power bleaching increases permeability of enamel (similar to the way it was when the patient was 14 years old), and will then allow the surrounding tooth structure to get REALLY white. You can't get whiter than WHITE. So the surrouding tooth structure tends to almost catch up in color to the spots. End result is that the spots are still there, but they will blend much better. #2: Microabrasion If the bleaching does not remove the white decalcified spot enough to your expectations, the dentist can use a course diamond and remove the spot mechanically with a strong bevel all the way around the spot. This can be done without any anesthesia. A translucent composite is then placed over it. From http://www.teethwhiteningreviews.com/mes…

Is whitening your teeth too much bad ?

I whiten my teeth 2-3 time a day once in morning and night with CVS 5 minute whitening gel and once in a while LiquidSmile Bleaching Pen. Is it bad if you whiten your teeth that much a day and for a long period of time?? If so why??

it can wear away the enamel on your teeth, why do you do it so often? i think it's kind of creepy when i see people with super white teeth.

Is it ok to Gargle with peroxide and brush your teeth with baking soda to whitening them?

My mom said i can use those if i want to whiten my teeth, she does it and her teeth are really white...does anyone know if its bad or not??
--------------------
It is OK to brush your teeth with a bit of baking soda( I recommend only once a day), but there toothpaste that use baking soda, and have that nice minty fresh taste we have become used to. (My favorite is Arm & Hammer toothpaste) I haven't professionally whitened my teeth, I drink wine and coffee, and I am very happy with the results) I DON'T recommend gargling with peroxide unless you have a cut or ulcer that requires short periods of treatment. Peroxide is not recommended for daily use, and it has been proven to cause cancer when used for long periods of time.

Okay for 12 year old to use teeth whitening trays/strips?

Like Crest Whitestrips or something? And can you use them if you have crooked teeth? Thanks :]
--------------------
To answer your question, yes a 12 year old can use them and they are perfectly safe for them to use. And they will work on crooked teeth because the white strips are flexible and will adapt to almost any imperfections. A 12 year old may have more sensitivity than an adult would have because the pulp/nerve on the inside of the tooth is bigger on younger people. But sensitivity levels are different for different individuals.

whats a good teeth whitening product?

whats a good teeth whitening product? My friend said Crest Premium Whitestrips are very good. My other friend gave me a box of classic Crest Whitestrips and they are working for me a bit but I want them whiter. My teeth aren't yellow or anything but they aren't that nice pearl white i would like them to be. Should I buy Crest Premium Whitestrips? Or are there any other good Crest Whitestrips types? Is there a good teeth whitening toothpaste I could use as well? I give Best Answer!
--------------------
My dentist does teeth whitening and recommends Crest Whitening Strips for at home use. At the time there was only one kind. After you use the Classic strips, you might want to try something stronger, but be careful not to irritate your gums too much. Not everything works for everyone. Crest is a good toothpaste that includes tooth whitening.

How much a professional whitening destroys teeth?

I have tetracycline teeth so I decide to make them whiter so I wear trays with bleach for past 4 weeks and I visits my dentist me every week for check up but my friend told me that this process destroyes enamel and my teeth will be spoiled.
--------------------
FYI, Tetracycline stains are difficult to completely remove after this antibiotic was given during childhood. The only thing that will actually destroy dental enames and sandblasting or a dental drilll. DENTAL ENAMEL IS AS HARD AS GLASS AND THERE'S NOT AN EASY WAY TO DESTROY IT.

Baking soda or Bi-carb soda for whitening teeth?

Which one? I bought bi-carb soda and benzoyl peroxide. Is this right for teeth whitening?
--------------------
Buy a Crest Pro Spinbrush. I bought one a week ago for $7.99 [plus tax] and my teeth are about 3 shades whiter by just using the brush and regular toothpaste. The brush has a round brush that spins on top, and a square brush that moves up and down on the bottom. Your teeth will be squeaky clean after you use it, and the stains I had on my teeth are almost gone, and like I said my teeth are about 3 shades whiter in only a week.

how can I diminish my teeth sensitivity while doing a whitening?

I started doing the whitening but my teeth become very sensitive during the day.
--------------------
First you all, you should not be using any whitening products that can be purchased over-the-counter b/c none of them are ADA approved.... if you are, then discontinue use and begin using a sensitive toothpaste..... your teeth will be fine in a week or so. If you are using a product from your dentist then contact your dentist as soon as possible to discuss the problem you are having with him or her.

Does the teeth whitening laser "Clear Action" work?

I used to see this product on tv.
--------------------
One popular tooth whitening product that you can use is bleaching solution that contains peroxide for bleaching tooth enamel. The bleaching agent in these products is usually carbamide peroxide, which is available in 10, 16 and 22 percent concentrations. Whiteners that contain peroxide typically come in gel form and are placed in a mouthguard. Some products are used twice a day for 2 weeks while others are intended for overnight use for a 1 to 2 weeks period. If you can obtain the bleaching solution from your dentist, he will be able to construct a custom mouth guard to fit your teeth precisely. Currently, the American Dental Association endorses only dentist-dispensed home-use percent carbamide peroxide tray-applied gels. In addition to bleaching solution, whitening strips are increasingly being used as a preferred tooth whitening product. For instance, you are now able to get your hands on a set of Crest Whitestrips Supreme from any convenience store. The flexible, invisible strips are coated with an enamel-safe tooth bleaching gel. To whiten your teeth, you simply place the strips on your teeth and wear them for about 15 to 30 minutes each day. After a period of about 21 days, you should be able to see a significant difference on the brightness of your teeth. What is up with this ad to the right about teeth whitening? Have you seen it? One white one yellow tooth, and?

question for dentists or hygienists: Teeth whitening - what is the safest way to do it..?

(weather at the dentist's/hygienist's office or at home). THANKS. ps. by safest I mean health-wise of course no radiation exposure or least dangerous chemicals/material in the process etc. bottom line, in order to prevent cancer.
--------------------
buy crest white strips! I never would think that sensodyne would make your teeth whiter, but it does. Teeth whitening costs way too much money and there are much easier ways, also when dentists say brush your teeth 3 times a day do that! you can buy wisps by: Crest those are little toothbrushes you can take anywhere they are super efficient and easy! serious teeth whitening is insane if you dont want to pay it takes time but if you just brush your teeth 3 times a day ( after every meal ) and use mouthwash at night and make sure your teeth are healthy, they will be noticeably whiter in less then a week!

Have you tried Equate Teeth Whitening strips? Did you get any results?

The box says that in 7 days you will have noticably whiter teeth. However, Its already been five days and I've seen no results at all. I performed all the directed instructions: Place on teeth for thirty minutes twice a day. Unfortunatly I can't go out to buy any other brands, as I am only twelve. I just found a brand new box of these whitening strips in my mom's cabnet and decided to try them a bit. ^^; If you have used Equate whitening strips before, can you tell me if you had any results? They don't seem to be that popular, so I won't be surprised if I get no answers. ;D Thank you for your time.
