i heard that brushing with baking soda works well to whiten it and remove tartar. are there any consequenses to brushing with toothpaste and baking soda at the same time? so that the baking soda stays on the brush. is it better to brush with baking soda first and then brush with regular toothpaste or should i brush with toothpaste first and then baking soda? what order should it be done in?
--------------------
Baking soda won't really have an effect on whitening your teeth or removing tartar. Baking soda is effective at neutralizing acid in your mouth, which will lower your chances of decay. Bacteria in your mouth produce acid whenever you eat, especially when it's a fermentable sugar. Acid produced by bacteria is what demineralizes your teeth and allows cavities to form. So if you brush or rinse with baking soda immediately after eating, it may help in your overall oral hygiene. People who have low saliva flow are especially recommended to rinse with baking soda because saliva acts as our natural acid buffering agent. Tartar is formed when plaque has been sitting on your teeth for some time and calcium in your saliva mineralizes it into a hard mass. You tend to find most tartar on your lower front teeth and upper molars because this is where saliva enters your mouth from the salivary glands. Tartar can only be removed by scaling because of the way it is adsorbed onto your teeth. Tartar control toothpastes are only effective in reducing the amount of tartar on your teeth after a cleaning has been removed by a dentist or hygienist. The active ingredient is sodium pyrophosphate, which acts as a buffer to remove calcium from your saliva so it doesn't have a chance to form tartar. Brushing with baking soda before or after you use toothpaste shouldn't hurt, but the results you are looking for will likely be marginal at best. Using proper brushing technique along with flossing are your best bets at maintaining a healthy mouth.

Teeth whitening gone bad...?
I used "Natural white extreme 5 minute" whitening gel + tray and after 2 uses my lower gums turned white except when i rub them white stuff comes off but then they turn dark red and are extremely sensitive.. what's going on?
--------------------
Wow. The same thing happened to me before. I stopped using the whitening and within 2 to 3 days my gums returned to their normal color and the sensitivity stopped. Instead of using the whitening for consecutive days as instructed, I used a tray once a week. In that way, my teeth didn't get sensitive, but my teeth were whitened.

How long does it take peroxide to whiten teeth?
Or is there anything else at home i could use. I can't get whitenig strips at the moment. I need to know the fastest way to whiten teeth at home. please help :0
--------------------
Don't use Peroxide!!! Are you crazy girl. Try baking soda/powder, that usually works quite well. Salt can be used too, but it doesn't work as good as baking powder and it might be, well, a bit salty...

can i apply pure baking soda directly to my teeth to whiten them?
i find whitening strips irritating and hard to keep in place. results with those always take longer. i was just curiuos, can i take plain old baking soda and brush my teeth with it? would this damage my enamel? what are all the affects? would i just wet my brush and dip it in baking soda? people have told me this. i only go to the dentist every six months to get my teeth cleaned. thanks
--------------------
I used baking soda and peroxide for about a year, and it did whiten, but the dentist said it was taking the enamel off my teeth and to go back to toothpaste. It's not just the baking soda, the peroxide helps too. You could probably rinse your mouth with peroxide daily, and I might consider brushing with baking soda 3x a week. That should provide enough whiteness and not hurt your enamel. Don't forget to floss.

Laser teeth whitening - is it any good?
Would appreciate information from anyone who's had it done or is knowledgeable on the subject. Is it painful, does it last, any side-affects, etc.?
--------------------
Its not painfull but your teeth will be sensitive for a while afterwards, the results vary depending if you smoke, eat alot of stuff with food colouring, eg red wine curries etc, these shouldn't be eaten for a while afterwards as the bleaching causes the surface of your teeth to become porous, you would probably get the same result with the home bleaching kit its less expensive and you just put the trays in overnight for a while, the laser bleaching will cost you more but is less hassle and your teeth should lighten by up to 9 shades and has immediate results

How come even when I brush my teeth are still yellow?
Even when I've brushed 2 times a day like my dentist told me They're not white their still yellow! I even bought the whitening tooth paste it worked for a little while but I only see some white on my teeth.
--------------------
Yellow may be the natural color of your teeth. Teeth naturally come in countless shades of white to yellow. Typically, the darker, or more yellow your teeth are (naturally of course) the harder they are and more resistant to decay. I naturally have yellow teeth and I've never had a cavity in my life (I'm 32). Of course I brush and floss like I should and if I didn't I'm sure I'd have plenty of cavities. But typically folks with naturally white teeth will have a much more difficult time avoiding the drill. Maybe you should consider yourself lucky.

Does salt and baking soda really work to whiten teeth?
Well ive had braces since 4th grade and now im going to 8th grade and need good working tooth paste or method that fights bad breath and whitens teeth. Does anyone know any good toothpastes or methods that actually last all day?
--------------------
salt...not so much...it just kills germs and helps in eliminating gum disease and bad breath... baking soda does help to a certain degree but overuse will result in loss of enamle and hypersensitivity of teeth.

Can I do anything to get rid of sensitive teeth from whitening them?
I've been whitening my teeth lately with prescription teeth whitener. My teeth are sensitive the day after I use it, & I'm SO sensitive that when I touch my clothes, paper, or write with a pencil (basically ANYTHING), I get the chills. My 2 science teachers recommended to switch to Sensodine toothpaste, but I just want a quick remedy to make it go away a little bit. Any suggestions?
--------------------
This happened to me with whitening, too. I'm a hygienist, and whenever patients are whitening, I always suggest they use a fluoride rinse, like Act. I would try this. I'm not sure if they sell this in stores, but if they do, I would get Prevident (I think from Colagate) - it's a stronger fluoride. This can repair some of the minerals that are lost from your teeth during whitening. Other than that, I can't think of any immediate solutions. Sensodyne toothpaste works well too, but it takes a week or two of using it.

To whiten teeth or not to whiten?
The MAIN point of your teeth is to break down your food for easier digestion afterwards. If one performs teeth whitening, does it have a negative effect in the long run(sensitivity, loss of teeth etc) in which case, is it better to live with yellow teeth to ensure the best possible digestion rather then whiten them.

it is better to use natural options! for example this product - I do not know if any pharmacies carry it but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and if you want you can read more about the product here http://www.teethwhiten.com/splash.php?ai before I had no idea that it is possible to whiten my teeth without surgically bleaching them. I tried this product for a few days and they got whiter & brighter so quick that I was shocked. The best thing about this teeth whitening product is that its so easy to use. It only takes me a few minutes twice a day for a few days and then there white for months. I suggest to try this product because at this moment they have Risk Free Trial - so they send you sample for free and you don't have to buy it!

Teeth Whitening Help?
Recently, due to stress at school, have occasionaly been missing opportunities to brush my teeth (would brush twice and floss twice daily). They have become so yellow I am almost disgusted. Now I went to buy teeth whiteners and I decided to get Aquafresh White Trays. First of all, they don't cover all my teeth so now if they work, half of my teeth will be white and the rest won't. Second, when I put the tray in my mouth, it doesn't feel like there's enough gel and it keeps squizing out. Is that normal or what am I doing wrong? I've just finished my third tray and I am noticing spots. PLEASE help is needed before I get to day 7. So: 1. How do I keep the gel in place, and have it spread out fully without losing any spare gel. 2. What should I do if white spots don't leave. Should I get Crest White Strips (Aquafresh set me back 45$ and Crest is about 50$ and I don't have all that much money)
--------------------
I don't use white strips myself, but my fashionista little sister SWEARS by them and says they do her a world of good. :D

Please answer me!!!!! about zoom teeth whitening?
should i get it done? im 15 years old and have really low pain tolerance. lots of things hurt me. but i've just gotten my braces off and the whole orthodontist thing wasn't that bad soo.. i guess im asking does it hurt 4 everyone? think it will hurt me?
--------------------
It depends on how sensitive your teeth are. The Zoom! light generates minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure, but always dissipate. You can also ask your dentist to supply you with anti-sensitivity toothpaste for use prior to treatment. Individuals with a strong gag reflex or anxiety may have difficulty undergoing the entire procedure.

Is there anything harmful about using baking soda to whiten teeth?
I've heard that a technique to whitening teeth is to brush with a little bit of baking soda on toothpaste. Well I want to know if anything could go wrong or if it could hurt my teeth?
--------------------
Baking Soda won't whiten your teeth unless you have a lot of staining. A whitening toothpaste will do the same thing and won't taste as bad. Nothing actually whitens our teeth except for bleaching the teeth... and that active ingredient is call Carbomide Peroxide (not to be confused with Hydrogen Peroxide- which would do nothing for whitening your teeth either). Whitening toothpastes are just really abrasive (like baking soda) and will remove any stain left on the outer enamel. Bleaching the teeth will actually whiten the color of the enamel to a whiter lighter shade.

How do I whiten my teeth by just brushing and flossing?
Two questions: A) How do I whiten my teeth by only using quality toothpaste and brush? B) If I brushed my teeth often in one day, would it better my chances of my teeth being whitened, or can it only whiten to a degree, and then I would need to bleach my teeth?
--------------------
Don't brush your teeth too often a day (no more than three), otherwise you will scrub the enamel off your teeth, and that will only cause your teeth to be less hard. Brush your teeth when you wake up and before you go to bed. And after lunch in the afternoon if you wish. Remember to floss every time you brush your teeth. Now flossing you can do as many times as you want a day. But, use com mon sense and don't floss like a fene. And also remember, flossing is one of those most important things you can do for your teeth because if you don't floss, all of the food stuck in your teeth that your brush can't reach will rot and make your teeth rot. Peroxide either when u wake up in the morning or before you go to bed. You only need about 1 tablespoon. Swish it around for about 30 seconds. Do not swallow. You can use multiple different toothpastes. They all work the same. They just try to get you to think that one works better than the other just so you will buy theirs. Its all the same. Just get one to your personal likeness. I prefer toothpaste with baking soda in it. Hope this helped. :) P.S. Remember, your teeth will only get as white as your bones are.

Healthy/ natural ways to whiten teeth?
I've thought about those teeth whitening strips, but they have certain ingredients that can and will effect your gums and teeth sensitivity. Right now I brush my teeth 1 - 2 times and day and use mouth wash every now and then. (since that also isn't the best thing for you) I don't like soda or coffee, dont smoke. My teeth aren't bad.. I was just wondering if there was some other healthy ways to whiten them.

Do Aquafresh White Trays hurt or make your teeth sensitive?
I'm thinking about getting Aquafresh White Trays but I'm wondering if they hurt like other tooth whitening products do or if they make your teeth really sensitive. Anyone who's used them, I'd like to know how they worked for you and what was your experience with them. Thanks!

use them if you have all the time in the world. If you want to save some some time for other work, get a power bleach of your teeth for tooth whitening, which is a single sitting procedure, requires only 1 hr time at a dental office and has predictable results. whitening is carried out by activating 20% h2o2 gel with high intensity plasma arc light or with LED lights.

whitening teeth with veneers?
My dentist says i cannot whiten my teeth professionaly because i have two veneers at the front of my mouth which because they are porceline will not whiten like my real teeth. It could end up looking weird. The only way possible is to have my veneers replaced with new ones so they can match the rest of my teeth but this is very pricey and he says because the veneers have been put in so well it would be a shame/risk to take them out to be replaced. But im thinking i may just get it done anyway and hope for the best. Anyone ever had this prob? How did u get out of it?
--------------------
What your dentist said is correct. Porcelain veneers will not get whiter with teeth whitening, same goes for crowns and fillings, you can try whitening your teeth, but if the color discrepancy is major after you finish bleaching, then you have to remake these 2 veneers. I don't think removing veneers is a hard task, specially if the dentist has laser in his office, they can be removed in about 5mins.
