I would wait until after the braces come off. Braces make cleaning teeth much more difficult and will almost certainly have a discoloring effect. After they come off, go have a cleaning done and then whiten.

Crest white strips have home ingredidents like peroxide....could I make something at home that would have the same whitening power (maybe more but still be safe?)

They also make Arm and Hammer Whiting Booster that I think works pretty good. Its in an hourglass shaped hwite bottle in the dental section. Its basically the clear gel on all whitening products but less concentrated.

Does anyone know of a mouthwash that whitens teeth, yet still cleans the gums and germs and whatnot?

Teeth Whitening Products?
Say I buy Crest Whitestrips and use them and my teeth get white, etc. Depending on which one you buy (7 day or 10 day treatment), it'll last for around a year or a year and half. Assuming that you brush and floss your teeth twice a day, do they mean that in a year your teeth will look the same as they did before you used the whitestrips, or will they just not be as white?

does blue cross blue shield cover teeth whitening?
i'm just curious whether i should make an appointment with my dentist to whiten my teeth, or just use the stuff they sell in stores. i just dont really like it cause it takes so long for it to work. id rather just sit in a chair for an hour and get it done right away. i dont wanna call blue cross because i think that they like make certain notes of it and wont cover it on purpose because i called and asked, and its a voluntary procedure, not like my teeth are hurting or anything.. if anyone could please let me know, i would greately appreciate it. thanks in advance!

Some insurances offer discount percentages for some cosmetic procedures and I think mine offers 20% off whitening. Best thing to do is remain anonymous when calling Blue Cross and ask. If they say no when you call asking for info they they would say no if you tried to file a claim. Either way the dentist will probably call your insurance company to see if you have any cosmetic coverage before doing it anyway. You will have to just call and find out! Especially since there are different plans within the same insurance company - you need to find out what yours covers!
