Hydrogen Peroxide and Whitening Teeth?

i need to whiten my teeth. i want to do it for free at home and i heard baking soda could work but how do you do it? thanks:) also, how do i use and get hydrogen peroxide i have no idea what it is !
--------------------
i guess for the baking soda you can just mix it with water on your toothbrush. the peroxide you can buy at the dollar store, basically anywhere. near the rubbing alcohol in a brown bottle =] but a forewarning, my sister brusthed with it every day for like a week and it turned the inside white, basically eating her mouth. she said it hurt.. but anyway if you do want to use it just try not to use it too regularly. just lookin out for ya!

how old do you have to be to Whitening your teeth?

i'm turning 15 in two month and i want to whitening my teeth my mom ask my dentist and she said that i have to be 17 and up to whitening my teeth but i have heard people saying that there is no age limit. can i do it when i turn 15 or just wait . wat do i do . please help me
--------------------
If your teeth are yellow or dicolored then have them cleaned by your dentist that won't let you use a whitener. If that doesn't work then you can put a little bit of baking soda and peroxide in a cup and use it to brush your teeth. let it sit on a bit so it has time to bleach out the discoloration. They won't disapprove because you just don't have to tell them, there your teeth and you want them to be whiter. Problem Solved!!!

Does Teeth Whitening hurt?

My mum is going to the dentist surgery tomorrow, to have her teeth whitened, and she is very concerned that it might hurt. I was just wondering if anybody had tried it before, and if it was painful??? Thanks
--------------------
I haven't had my teeth whitened at the dentist but have used a home kit and all I can say is that if she suffers with sensitive teeth then it may exacerbate this. It doesn't hurt but may feel uncomfortable for a little while. But usually there are no problems so I'm sure she will be fine.

teeth whitening/strong sensitvity?

i am about to get my braces off (thank goodness!!!) and i want to make my teeth a little more white so i dont have gross stains...there is NO way im getting it pro done....so my other opts are to use like Crest white strips or something like them or maybe the "home solution" which is baking soda and hydrogen peroxide mix... ....however...my problem is, is that my teeth are ridiculously sensitive (yes, ive tried sensodyne toothpaste with NO luck...) and i am worried that using whitening strips (or whatever) will make my teeth even MORE sensitive (if thats possible!)......any ideas???? thanks!!!!
--------------------
That's a bummer that your teeth are so sensitive, I'm sorry. That's so exciting about getting your braces off though! I needed some help when I first got mine off as well and that's when I started using Crest whitestrips. My teeth were fairly sensitive the first day or two but I was fine after that and was so pleased with the way they turned out. Maybe give it a try and if it really is unbearable, ask your dentist about what would be best, good luck!

Teeth whitening... Some advice please?

I want to get my teeth whitened and I'm wondering if there are any kits out there that are just as good as visiting the dentist to ahve it done? Thanks
--------------------
crest strips, baking soda, pearl drops... ect do do the job but they do damage your teeth in the process. the best way to whiten your teeth is to go to your dentist and inquire home whitening. the procedure is quite simple. First your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and send them to a lab. The lab will then make clear rubbery retainers that are replicas of your teeth. This will take about a week and when you go to your next appointment your dentist will show you how to remove and insert the trays. He/she should also provide you with some bleaching gel. Your dentist should show you how to apply this bleach to your trays. It is recommened that you wear the trays for roughly 6 hours a day so the best way to do this without disrupting your lifestyle is to wear them when you go to sleep. You should start seeing results within 2 weeks approx. The best thing about this is your in control. When you have reached your desired shade you simply stop using them. It will wear off within approx 3 months but then you just start sleeping in them again. hope i have helped.

Teeth Whitening for just £136 - any good?

The Beauty Salon close to my place offers teeth whitening for just £136 and I was wondering if for that price the procedure will be a) professional, b) provide a visible difference and c) be safe? I have read that 18 out of 20 whitening kits tested contain illegal levels of bleach and there are opinions that it can cause cancer (what doesn't these days?!) I would be interested in doing it but am unsure if for the price the results will be satisfactory? I always thought it costs a couple of £££'s per tooth?

What's the best tooth whitening product?

I have yellow teeth that have been like that forever (hereditary?). I don't have money for an expensive procedure but would be willing to try products. I have had Listerine whitening recommended to me but would like some other opinions preferrably with reasons or personal experience.

Chewing on crunchy foods like carrots, apples and celery, is said to cause friction which helps get debris off your teeth that can stain them. There are many old natural remedies and some new natural and/or herbal products, as well as, some chemical products, all claiming to whiten teeth. The color of teeth comes from genetics originally, and it varies person to person. Teeth will natually discolor over time due to age. The best way to keep teeth as white and you were designed to have, is to avoid foods, liquids, drugs, and products that stain teeth. Avoid things known to stain teeth, like coffee, tea, red wine, berries, tobacco products, food colorings, etc.... Avoid direct exposure to a lot of raw lemons or citrus products like tomatos, limes, oranges, as the citric acid wears the enamel off the teeth, and when dentin is exposed (like with cavities), it can cause discoloration. If you do eat them, rinse your teeth right away. Avoid carbonated drinks that contain phosphoric acid, like coca cola for the same reason. Sports drinks often contain citric acid, phosphoric acid and organic acid (coffee contains organic acids, also). The latter two are known to break down calcium, along with breaking down enamel. Also, If you eat raw papaya or raw pineapple, rinse your mouth after eating them, as they have enzymes that can cause sores in your mouth and gums, because they break down proteins. The antibiotic tetracycline is known to cause teeth to stain and so is fluoride and caffeine. Mercury fillings cause teeth to stain where the tooth comes in contact with the filling; This is because of galvanization. So, one should get all amalgams replaced. Gold seems to be ok as long as it is a good quality gold such as high noble, and white composites or porcelain fillings can be used. Hydrogen peroxide can whiten teeth, but it can penetrate teeth, which are porous, and cause sensitivity. It is used in dental bleaching. It is a special 35% solution, so buying the 2% bottle of it over the counter in hopes to make your teeth white, will not work and could eventually cause sensitivity, irritation, or inflamation of the gums. Myself, I do not recommend teeth whiteners of any kind, for the same reason. If you do decide to use a teeth whitener, either over the counter or from the dentist, if you are not avoiding foods that cause staining, your teeth will stain again, and you will have wasted your money. To whiten your teeth often, will most likely cause sensitivity, enamel breakdown, and can lead to cavities. The long term effects of teeth bleaching on nerves and blood vessels inside the teeth are unknown. Laser bleaching seems to cause more problems with sensitivity than non-laser bleaching. Bleaching does not work on false teeth, crowns, veneers or fillings (even white ones). You may opt to replace those with lighter shades if you don't like the color. Bleaching is not recommended for children whose teeth are still developing or for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is important to brush after meals to avoid plaque and tartar build up, which can also cause discoloration. Avoid toothpastes that contain abrasives to fight plaque and tarter, as they can wear away enamel and make the dentin show through (which has a yellowish or brownish tint), which can cause staining, or cavities or cause your teeth to appear brown or yellow. Also, avoid brushing too hard for the same reason. If you do consume products that cause staining, use water to rinse your mouth directly afterward. There is a technique called internal bleaching. The only way it can be done is to have a root canal, and root canals cause devastating health effects and should be avoided altogether. The British Dental Association has expressed concern that the smokers' whitening toothpastes Clinomyn and Pearl Drops are too abrasive. Many whitening toothpastes contain titanium dioxide, a suspected carcinogen and can be absorbed by the skin, and, when the effluent containing it is discharged from manufacturers, it acidifies rivers and seas. Smokers toothpaste, Topol, containing an abrasive form of silica to remove heavy stains from tar and resin deposits can cause damage to cementum and dentin in people with gingival recession, resulting root exposure. Tooth whitening actually requires modifying the intrinsic tooth color, chemically alterating the chromophores within the tooth. Whitening toothpastes using bicarbonate, alumina and polyphosphates cannot whiten teeth; All they can do is contribute to stain removal. Whitening requires bleaching or enzymatic disruption. Acid penetration and dissolution has not been an acceptable method of whitening for nearly a century. Many products claim whitening ability with various peroxides -- hydrogen, calcium or carbamide. For over-the-counter peroxide content is kept low. It has effervescence and maybe some short-lived bleaching because peroxide is rapidly broken down by oral enzymes from bacteria and saliva. Gels stay on longer, but must be used with a tray to work. Only whitening products used by dentists have ADA acceptance. Over-the-counter product manufacturers have never attempted such claims. A product called NatureWhite contains carbamide peroxide is supposed to whiten your teeth dramatically with just one 45 Minute application. It is said to be the same thing that dentists use and that dentists use a 12% solution while NatureWhite uses a 22% solution. Crest white strips, by comparison, have a 3% solution. Before whitening your teeth, you should find out if your teeth have thin enamel. This can cause your teeth to have a yellowish or brownish apperance. Whitening will not help in this situation and can make appearance worse and cause sensitivity. There are herbs that have been used throughout history to whiten teeth. Sage boiled in water to make tea was said to strengthen gums and whiten teeth. During the middle ages, powdered mint leaves were used to whiten teeth. Charcoal was touted as the best powder to use for whitening teeth, removing tartar and preventing decay. Other common ingredients in tooth powders included: cream of tartar, camphor, white castile soap powder, cuttle fish bone, precipitated chalk, powdered borax, powdered gum myrrh, powdered orris root, and talc. The majority of these ingredients cleaned and whitened teeth. Here are some other natural remedies : Take a teaspoon of lemon juice and a tsp of salt. Make a paste. Apply this on the yellowish tint. Use the inner white part of an orange peel to rub teeth for a lovely white shine. Take half teaspoon of bi-carbonate of soda mixed with a little water to form a paste. Rub this on your teeth. Dried & powdered Bay leaves combined with dried orange peel is an excellent whitener. Strawberries, oddly enough are said to have cleansing and bleaching properties that can help remove of tea and coffee stains, especially from dentures. Crush the strawberries gently and rub the pulp onto your teeth. Rinse with water. There are some new tooth pastes and products with Bromaine Complex™, a combination of the natural enzymes, Bromelaine from pineapple, and Papain from papaya, said to be clinically proven to whiten teeth. Dentizyme™ is an herbal remedy; it consists of a unique blend of bio-active plant enzymes, organic botanicals, rainforest botanicals, and essential oils. Dentizyme™ users report fewer or no gum disease symptoms, they also report that their gums look pinker and healthier along with excellent teeth whitening results and teeth stains are said to disappear entirely with continued use of this herbal extract.

Teeth whitening at a cosmetic dentist?

Ever since I was little, I have had white specks on my top four front teeth. My doctor used to say they were from medicine, and they would go away as I got older, but they've actually gotten more noticeable. I've tried the whitening trays and strips, and they also make the specks more noticeable =[ Would professional teeth whitening even out the color, so these specks won't show? Has anyone had this done before? Did you like the results? Was it worth the money? How much did it cost? Sorry, this is like five questions =/ I just want to know if it's going to be worth it or not. Thanks!
--------------------
those specs are probably due to you taking lots of medicine (mostly antibiotics) whitening machines (such as zoom whitening) found at the dentists only make the whitening of teeth a faster procedure as opposed to whitening trays (1 visit v's 2 weeks of tray bleaching). Those specs are likely to stay there, but they would be more blended in and less noticeable as your whole tooth will be whiter. to say that the specs will go away and you will have snow-white teeth is a lie. as the only procedure to get perfect shaded teeth would be to crown or veneer them. so if you think you bleached your teeth correctly with the trays and followed the manufacturers instructions, then whitening at the dentist will not do alot more for you. if you bought the whitening trays over the counter, i could only suggest that you ask your dentist for a more potent bleaching product. This will save you a lot of money than getting a machine (such as laser whitening) to whiten your teeth. hope this helps.

Teeth whitening for sensitive teeth?

SO I'm pretty compulsive about having a B1 (white) smile. I used to use crest whitestrips some years ago, and only once every few days. My teeth/gums are SO sensitive now though i'm not sure what whitening system to buy. I've tried go-smile touch ups, which do nothing, nautral white gel thats super cheap and doesnt do too much either.... recommendations on whitening strips, trays, etc, that REALLY work and DO NOT give sensitivity?

aquafresh whitening trays. it doesnt move around and the gel doesnt come in contact with your gums.

Teeth Whitening That's Affordable?

What is the best product that will whiten my teeth? I just got rid of braces and I have these little yellow squares on my teeth and they are not at all attractive. And my teeth have never really been white. Anything that is affordable. I can buy in stores. (NOT ONLINE) And has great results. Thanks a bunch!! -Blake(:
--------------------
When I got my braces off my dentist recommended Crest Whitening Strips. I bought them and I didn't even finish the treatment. I saw my teeth whitening everyday, it was awesome! When I bought it it was around $30 at Target. I should get them again, I've taken up drinking coffee :(

Teeth whitening creams...? Please help!?

Do they work, and do they wreck your teeth at all? I'm talking about the ones like colgate that claim to whiten your teeth by 7 shades in 5 days or something, it's a cream that you put on your teeth before you sleep... Thanks.
--------------------
Try to stay away from those creams that you should leave on your teeth during the night - dentists say those are unhealthy for your teeth. Try something else that is not so aggressive. You can also try bleaching teeth at home. There's huge amount of info about it online.

these whitening systems can make your teeth more sensitive. If you have cold sensitivity it may get worse. they do whiten though.

Electric Toothbrush / Teeth Whitening: Any Recommendations?

I'm after an electric toothbrush and just wondering if anybody uses one that they could recommend? Also, recommendations for something that helps get teeth nice and white, without the need to pay a few hundred pounds at the dentist. Many thanks in advance. PS. Non affiliated recommendations only please.
--------------------
I've used an Oral B Precision electric toothbrush for a while now and it is satisfactory. I haven't tried other electric brushes so I can't give you a comparison. I also use dental floss because a toothbrush cannot always access the tiny gaps between your teeth. I don't believe in using tooth whiteners because teeth are not usually brilliantly white so I can't see why people cannot live with their natural colour. Just make sure that they are clean and healthy and not freakishly white.

Do they also cause sensitivity?

The Crest ones made my teeth really sensitive and the results were actually not that great! The one I use now is from http://mycelebsmile.com/y/ online and it had been absolutely great for me so far. No more Whitestrips for me, hehehe!

How do you whiten a porcelain veneer on teeth?

I have a porcelain veneer on one of my teeth, from years ago when I was a kid. I am considering getting my teeth whitened but my dentist doesn' t think the procedure would work on the veneer. It would be obvious if it didn't, since it is one of my two front-teeth, and I'd rather know before I tried. Anybody know how this one can be whitened?
--------------------
Get the veneer replaced with a whiter one.
