Going to the dentist to get your teeth whitened?
Right now I'm a 9th grader with braces and as soon as I get them off (Junior year) I want to go to the dentist to get my teeth whitened. I want to do this because I realize how yellow teeth are a big turn off in both personal and business worlds. But my question is is it safe to do this? Will going to the dentist and having my teeth whitened do anything to my teeth? Eat away my enamel? Yes I realize how costly the procedure is and I plan to get a job before junior year to pay this off.

Whitening ones teeth with peroxide?
i have read mean home pastes you can make. but i was wondering if it would work if i made a paste(made from peroxide and bicarbonate of soda) and put the paste on a gum shield thingy (i got it from a home whitening kit a while back) and placed it in my mouth for a few minutes? Peroxide can cause some pretty serious gum burns and if done incorrectly could permanently damage your gums not to mention the associated pain! Be careful! My advice is how much are your gums worth to you? As an alternative perhaps you could look into finding out how much dentists charge for topup whitening gel for your trays.

Probably the Crest Whitening Strips you get from your dentist. They have some that are strips and other more expensive ones that go in trays. I've done the strips before and they work (cost around $100). When I get my braces off I am going to get the trays. They cost around $200.

i want to get my teeth whitened. but i have fillings at the top front of my top teeth and the color they put is the matching color of my teeth (whitish- yellowish.. natural) . my mother told me that the filling will still be that color when i bleach my teeth. and ofcourse that wouldnt look right. so if my mom's right. what can i do?

there could be some dye in it that will stain your teeth. otherwise you know about the sugar. I find that brushing with peroxide ( h202 ) and baking soda really cleans and whitens the teeth. You could even mix it with toothpaste.

Gums bleeched??? So I had the ingenius idea of whitening my teeth 2x as fast...?
So i had the idea of whitening my teeth 2x as fast... so i had my whitening toothpaste along with hydrogen peroxide and i was scrubbing while adding in the peroxide and i guess i scrubbed too much on a part of my mouth and my gums sting and now their WHITE !!!! sooo i think i bleeched my gums? -question is, will it go away soon? is it pernemant? eek!! stupid idea... any help??? was just gonna go on a 1st date...

Nah, its not perminant. If you put bleach on your skin, you will get little white dots too. its nothing to be worried about. The peroxide was just killing the bacteria and some of the tissue on your gums. Just leave it alone... It should be gone in an hour or so.

Hey All, I have had yellow stained teeth ever since my permanent teeth came in and my mom believed it was because of medications that she was on when I was a baby in the womb, she was hospitalized and almost died when pregnant with me.
