Crest Strips, Mentadent, etc etc. Ovet the counter stuff.
--------------------
Most of the OTC stuff is marginal at best. I've tried a few but never really had good results. I went for a basic checkup at my dentist and the cleaning that the dental hygienist performed outdid that stuff. If you're really want your teeth white - save up to have the dentist do it with the right equipment. You'll have it done right the first time in a safe and controlled environment. If you're really into white teeth, get caps. But then you might look like Sammy Hagar and that just is not natural.

I asked my dentist about teeth whitening...?
And he said "I'm afraid it would not be a good idea as teeth whitening requires multiple visits for such a treatment, it may not even last for long and may damage the enamel." I'm 17 but I feel he may be saying this because he can't be arsed with the treatment, so I'm guessing he attempted to create some sort of story to get himself out of it. I'm a UK citizen and pay privately for my dentist seeing as the NHS is as good as public transport's reliability. My teeth aren't that white nor are they that yellow either. On a teeth whitening chart, they are probably about half way but these charts vary. I also currently wear braces (nearly time for them to come off) and I'm wondering if I could get them whitened after my braces come off? However, my orthodentist (who I am also paying privately) said my dentist is very conservative (my orthodentist and my dentist are both friends). Cheers. Arnold

Teeth Whitening Product ?
Hi Can anyone tell me in your opinion what the best product for whitening teeth is ? Thanks!
--------------------
Tooth whitening can cost anything from $400 for Laser whitening and upwards for a professional laser whitening treatment, to a do it yourself kit for $29.99 off the Internet. However, the active ingredients that turn the tooth white are almost always the same - a carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide solution. Your dentist will likely use a 22-45% carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide solution which is a relatively strong solution while in the chair, and will give you a 16-22% solution for use at home. However, this can vary greatly according to your sensitivity and the actual whitening agent used. The strips work OK if you have perfectly straight teeth. If you don't you will get ugly lines where the strips don't quite line up. Cheapest is to use a bleaching kit with trays for use at home with a good amount of the active ingredients.

Teeth whitening/bleaching?
I picked up my whitening kit from the dentist. It's a 16% PolaNight. I'm using my Invisalign aligners. The kit has these syringes filled with gel that I put in the aligners. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried the bleaching kit. How effective is it? It says to keep the stuff on at least 2 hours. Can I wear it all night? And are there certain foods/drink that will stain my teeth during this process? I don't drink coffee but do drink soda ever so often. The lady at the dentist said to use it till you're happy with the color. Do most people just use all the syringes?

Dazzle White Pro is probably the one that I get the best results from. It truly lives up to it's promises as you can see results in as little as 10 minutes, with no need to wait days or weeks to see any results. It is a little pen applicator which applies the whitening product to your teeth and after only a few minutes . . . you will see results, just as I did. It's truly a new type of whitening product. Best of All: You can try it absolutely free so you can see if their claims add up -- which if you're like me, you'll see results. I put the website in the resource box. Get your free trial today, I don't think it is lasting much longer . . . if you don't then you will only wonder why you didn't take advantage of it, and kick yourself for missing out on this remarkable product.

how much does teeth whitening cost?
im in the UK
--------------------
There are few ways of teeth whitening - In-home; Office, Whitening strips. Since you had braces, I guess strips won't work for you. Office whitening is the most expensive. It goes 6-10 shades immediately and costs $400-$800 here in States - depends on the method, your doc, etc...It's done by putting the bleach on your teeth and using the light to work on it... In-home kits are in my opinion less invasive, less painful and more suitable for your age, if you really need a whitening. The doc will take a print of your teeth, will make a form and you will just put a whitening agent inside and stuck it on your teeth for some amount of time. It takes few days, but the results are same or very close to the office method. I had an office method done last year before getting a crown for my implant. For me it was horrible experience. I have a sensitive teeth and 2 hours after the procedure I was in excrutiating pain. It lasted for few hours and was gone, but I would never do it again. If I ever needed to whiten my teeth, I would opt for an In-home kit. Since you are 13, the whitening is not very good for you, but after the braces removal your teeth may be stained. Your dentist is a specialist and he will determine the best way for you considering your age, your teeth sensitivity, etc. Good luck! :)

Best TEETH whitening SOLD IN DRUG STORES?
lesss than $30. and dont say brushing your teeth or Whitenimg toothpate.
--------------------
Discuss this with your dentist at your next visit. The strips work well, but the results aren't lasting. The office one hour bleaching works great but is very expensive and usually last a few years. The best I've seen is the bleaching trays with a mild solution that your doctor prescribes. With the trays you and your doctor monitor your bleaching progress. Once you've reached the brightest shade, usually in about two weeks you are finished. The up side to this is you get to keep your trays and the solution. So when ever you think your teeth are getting dull from coffee, tea and other staining foods, usually every 3-4 months, you can bleach for thirty minutes to an hour and be right back to bright. And anytime you need more solution your doctor can provide it. Most patients seem to perfer this way over most others and get the best results. And the solution isn't harmful to the teeth, it does not remove any enamel, only stain thats attached to the enamel. The down side to this is you don't get instant results. Not much of a down side, is it? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages with your doctor, he/she will be the best to advise you. Hope I've been of some help to you. Good luck!

I have a question about teeth whitening.?
So I have been using Peroxide and Baking Soda to whiten my teeth and I use it daily, day and night. I have been seeing results and it has only been 4 days. I told my brother about it and he said that it can have some side effects, like my teeth getting very sensitive for a couple of weeks after im done using it. (I have stopped using it because i'm afraid this might be true) Plus he has already used Crest Whitening Strips and he said that they had the same effect. Can someone tell me... . Will my teeth get sensitive after the whitening process? . Is Peroxide mixed with Baking Soda safe? . Will my enamel start to fade if I keep using this mix?

Hi, Lot of people do face problems with yellow teeth. The reason for yellow teeth can be less calcium, smoking or coffee. Some people face problems like yellow to faint yellow teeth also because of too much brushing or using products which harm teeth. While baking soda or peroxide can make your teeth white but it is not recommended. Dentists world over do not recommend use of such pure form substances on teeth as they harm your teeth in longer run. Not all whitening trays are good, in fact many people have complained about irritation and pain with trays. Lot of people want white teeth so that they can smile big and don't get embarrassed while talking to friends and colleagues. Such people can use teeth whitening pens which are 100% safe for your teeth. The best thing about these products is that you can easily get FREE trial to have white teeth. You may order your free trials and have white teeth. You just have to pay for the shipping and handling. Its always better to try before you buy and I am sure it will work for everyone including you. BTW the website where you can get such free samples is http://www.freeteethwhiteningsamples.com - Its the first top product listed there. I am not promoting the website nor am I associated with it in any manner. Just trying to help someone who is worried about bad/yellow teeth. Hope this helps. Thanx :-)

Does This Look Like A Good Teeth Whitening Solution?
I am looking to whiten my teeth after quitting smoking for over 10 years. My teeth have a small tint of yellow and I think its disgusting now. Amazing how these things don't bother you when you are a dedicated smoker. Anyway I wanted to get peoples opinion on teeth whitening. I really don't like the idea of going to dentist because its so expensive, plus I just hate the dentist office experience in general I found this offer for luminous brites http://www.cresttoothwhitening.com Its only $4.99 to start which covers shipping shipping and then they send you a shipment each month for $79.99. Has anyone tried these in home solutions? Do they work and is it worth the $80 per month verses the dental visit? I see some dentists are charging over $2k for teeth whitening Thanks Max
--------------------
I would definitely suggest it because I used it and it worked. At first I was reluctant to spend all that money but in the end, the results were worth but I would suggest that you go see the dentist because they may have a better solution that might not cost as much but I doubt it. Its awesome that you quit smoking though!!!

Ok another teeth whitening question... about keeping crest whitening strips on your teeth?
Ok so I finally bought some. And I used it for the first time today. But I had one problem. I couldn't keep the bottom strip on my teeth. They kept sliding up off my teeth. I couldn't talk or anything because that's when it happened the most. But even just sitting there not moving my lips they would start to slid up. Why is this? And how can I keep it from not doing that?? Hope someone can help!! Thanks!!!
--------------------
We usually have more saliva collecting in the lower arch....so try drying your teeth (and the area) with a dry washcloth before placing the strip in that area......

Best Teeth whitening?
I have colgate toothpaste that's supposed to whiten teeth right now, doesn't work. I have braces. What toothpaste do you recommend? Strips when I get my braces off? (soon) Anything else? My teeth are really gross I want them white! Also I have sensitive gums and teeth.
--------------------
as gross as it sounds...baking soda. put your tooth paste on your tooth brush, then dip it in baking soda, and it will stick to the toothpaste. brush your teeth and it will taste nasty..but the more you do it..you dont even realize it all that much then rinse your brush off...then brush your teeth again with normal toothpaste(no baking soda) to get the nasty after taste of baking soda out of your mouth.. good luck!

I have been using whitening strips on my teeth. Now they are spotty. Is this normal?
I've used the Rembrandt Whitening Strips twice now, and my teeth have white spots and are whiter at the bottom part of the tooth than at the top. I called Rembrandt and they said to keep using the strips to even out the issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this normal?
--------------------
This is not an uncommon problem and is usually temporary. It generally happens because the tooth becomes a bit dehydrated and the spots will usually go away once the tooth has been rehydrated. I would suggest using the strips as recommended or every other day and see how you react. Also, do not brush your teeth before you put them on and no dark foods or drinks for 1/2 hour after. Hope that helps- Good luck. JAMRDH - a dental hygienist

Safe, at home teeth whitening techniques?
I am looking for some safe, at home teeth whitening techniques that I can use to get a brighter smile. I brush three times a day for about two minutes each session, but my teeth just don't seem to get white. I think it might be because I have braces. Well, anyway do you know any working techniques that are cheap and safe? I heard of the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide method, but I have no idea on how to go about doing that. Just an extra question: if you use that method, do you still brush with normal toothpaste daily? 10 points for some safe, working teeth whitening methods.
--------------------
ok first of all if you still have the braces don't try to use any form of teeth whitening products or techniques. if you tried to bleach your teeth all the parts of the tooth which is covered by the braces won't respond to the bleaching so it's color will be different from the other uncovered parts which will cause very bad looking teeth that is hard to be treated. also when you are making orthodontic treatment the acidity of the saliva is raised a little bit and will be weaker to caries bacteria the bleaching will worsen the case.if you need to read more about this issue go there www.speakasp.net/blog

will tooth whitening work on a root canaled tooth?
I'm using crest whitestrips supreme (professional) whitestrips from my dentist for whitening. I have an eye tooth that has been root canaled, but not crowned, so it's the natural tooth, it's just dead. Will the whitening strips work on this tooth? It's a few shades darker than my other teeth. thanks.
--------------------
When a tooth gets a grayish internal stain after a root canal , it will never lighten from whitening strips. It would require a procedure called internal bleaching, where the opening into the tooth that was used for the root canal is re opened into and strong solutions are sealed into the tooth. Even this is not a sure thing and will weaken the tooth further. Your best bet would be to have all of your teeth whitened and then place a porcelain crown on the root canal ed tooth to match the whiter color and to strengthen this brittle tooth. Good luck.

if i use a teeth whitening product to whiten my teeth does it.....?
permanently whiten or do you have to reapply after a while to maintain it....?
--------------------
No product, not even the professional whitening dentists use is permanent, so you will have to reapply it. How often you have to reapply it depends on the strength of the whitening strips/gel and your diet. Red meat, coffee, and red wine stains teeth the most.

What are some really good teeth whitening products?
I've been using this bleaching kit called Forte and it work well and I've used it twice a day for the past month and I've noticed a difference but its not making my teeth as white as I'd like. I want like serious paper white teeth. Along with this kit I'm using baking soda and peroxide and Crest whitening rinse and a whitening tooth paste and still my teeth aren't getting any whiter. Is there anything else that anyone has used that will get your teeth like EXTREMELY white. I mean super, super, super white. Just like I said, paper white.
--------------------
This is not what you are going to want to hear but what you are doing is really bad for your teeth. These whitening products slowly dissolve your enamel exposing the dentin and leaving you susceptible to sensitivity. I would recommend stop using these products so often (once in a while is ok but still not recommend). Visit your dentist and get your teeth bleached professionally for a safer, whiter smile.

I have tried a couple of the strips in different brands but they all make me gag, which is not fun, so I never commit to using them. I'm not really willing to spend a whole bunch of money on whitening my teeth, so something inexpensive that works well would be awesome. suggestions?

Real good inexpensive way is buying Plus White Teeth Whitener or a simple toothpaste with baking soda + peroxide.

I took and antibiotic called Decomycin as a child and now I have gray teeth. What can I take to whiten my teeth from the inside out? I've tried all the whitening agents with no success.

There is no supplement for this because it is actually a sign of malnutrition to have pearly white teeth. How it got to be a fad is beyond me. Archaeologists can use the teeth on the bodies that they find to tell whether the people they find were well fed or not, depending on their condition, or the color, of these teeth. I'm sorry about your teeth, and I don't know what else to say. I know that people have had good results with laser treatment. It is getting more and more affordable.

Overall I would say that most of my patient's have had some measure of success with the Crest Whitestrips, some more than others. Our office uses Crest Supreme which are much stronger than what you can buy in a drugstore and don't cost that much more ($60.00 vs $30.00). You can purchase the drugstore version, but do yourself the favor of using them right after you get your teeth cleaned as any staining and buildup (tartar or plaque) will impede their ability to work. Also, don't use fluoride toothpaste before putting the strips on (same reason). The strips are probably your best low price alternative, much less than in office whitening or custom trays (about $500.00). Most whitening toothpastes just remove stain on the surfaces of your teeth and therefore are not so effective. Whatever method you use it will not whiten your teeth for life, as you age your teeth will get darker and may need to be whitened again. You should see results within the first week if not sooner. Good luck! JAMRDH - a dental hygienist

Getting caps on front teeth, doing whitening now, have questions?
I'm getting caps done on my two top middle teeth (called 1 and 2 i think). The dentist gave me the molds and syringes for whitening for the rest of the teeth, they're very discoloured. I have some questions. I need to know for when to make the appointment to get the caps. Once I finish the whitening, do i need to wait a week or something before getting the temporaries so that the colour has time to "settle"? Do the whitened teeth need a few days so that they can come into the colour they'll be. Or if i finish the whitening on a friday, can i just go straight in on saturday or will the temporaries then be brighter then the rest of the teeth because a week from then the rest will darken. ok, i hope that made sense. question two. When i asked my dentist whether i could do the laser whitening she said that the trays are better. my teeth are pretty "yellow" and even the dentist said that they wont go white but they'll just be "brighter". Once i finish the trays, can i just go in and do the laser whitening so that i ensure i have whitest colour possible before getting the crowns. will that damage my teeth if i follow the one whitening treatment after another? i just want to make sure the whitening is done as well as possible and i dont know if the trays will do that. The reason she said that the trays are better is that the results last longer, so if i get the laser done, will it soon go back to the colour that i would have with just the trays? i dont want my teeth to be a different colour from the crowns sometime down the line so i have concerns about that.
--------------------
I recommend that you wait at least a couple of days for the color to stabilize. I agree that I don't like laser whitening. It really only gets the surface white and doesn't last very long. The trays are much better, plus you can do those any time at home when you feel that you need more whitening. You are also more in control with the trays. As soon as your natural teeth are the same as the caps, you can stop. Laser is so fast that they may over whiten.

On a dry toothbrush, pour a capful of regular peroxide. Have a box of baking SODA at hand, and put a bunch on the wet brush. Start with the front teeth and brush gentley for 2 full minutes....your teeth will be sparkingling[specially too after a few days of this] I even get my kids to do this....works great for us! I drink alot of coffee, and my teeth are very white, with no signs of all the tea and coffee!!

i had the same problem with yellowish teeth and i found this product is very effective and very cheap http://www.maximumteethwhitening.com/ i use it on a regular basis and it keeps my teeth white and looking great. It only costs about $30 AUD including the tray for you teeth and a couple of syringes with the gel, Which is cheap compared to the dentist. I put my trays in about twice a week for an hour each and you can notice the difference straight away. I also use it before i have a special occasion and take it out right before i leave. I get lots of compliments on my white teeth which is great. they're also very straight which helps, lol once i had a friends mum ask me if I've been 'sucking on bleach'. haha she was over-exaggerating but you can definitely notice the before and after difference. It doesn't hurt your teeth it just feels a little uncomfortable with the tray in your mouth. I asked around heeps before buying any products and i compared prices, at one stage i was going to go to the dentist and get it professionally done but im sooo glad i tried this out. Ive actually ordered it twice within the past year and am using my second lot now. Also use teeth whitening toothpaste and brush your teeth at least twice a day, if you eat meals at home always brush your teeth after woulds to keep any stains of. And of course avoid coffee and coke if you really want to maintain your pearly whites :)
