I heard about the peroxide and baking soda. How does that work? What are you supposed to do?

Baking soda is an option. In making a decision you should consider the level of discoloration of your teeth. Care must be exercised to prevent damage to the teeth enamel. You can compare effectiveness and cost of at-home methods here: http://the-dental-makeover.com/whiten-te

What is the best teeth whitener that I can buy at a drug store.?
I want to whiten my teeth but can't afford really expensive stuff. What's the best that I can buy at a drug store.
--------------------
it's called "5 minute speed whitening gel" it's at walgreens/cvs and all those basic common stores you can get one tube of it that will last you like 3 months and it's about 3 dollars. OR for 5 dollars you can get the tube, a little mouthguard type thing to put the gel in and put it in your mouth, plus some mouthwash that helps make it even whiter. I'd recommend just buying the tube. you'll see pretty dramatic results after the second day. ALL you have to do is put the gel on your teeth, leave it on for 5 minutes, then rinse it off and voi la! gorgeous teeth!! :) I use it all the time and get soo many compliments :) plus the more you use it the longer you can make the time that you keep it on your teeth. i do about 10 minutes now and they are like SHOCKINGLY white afterwards lol hope it works for you :) Moxie

Can you brush your teeth with peroxide everyday?
I mix peroxide and baking soda to whiten my teeth can you do this everyday?
--------------------
You can't use regular peroxide/baking soda on your teeth, unless you want to cause more problems. Use whitening toothpaste, and get regular dental cleanings and they will be a natural white. Baking soda can scratch the tooth surface and cause pits that will absorb stains even more. The baking soda in toothpaste is more processed that the stuff you clean the fridge with, and has the paste part to buffer it. Using the plain boxed stuff is not great. The peroxide is also not meant to be taken internally, so don't swallow any.

How much and how long do i rinse with hydrogen peroxide to whiten my teeth?
do i use a little or a lot? if i rinse for like 3 minutes the first time will i automatically see results?
--------------------
I figured out a very good way to whiten teeth without anything expensive--and the results are amazing! 1. Be sure to floss really well. 2. Go buy a metal tooth scraper (you can get one at any Walmart--just ask someone if you can't find it) to remove the plaque off of your teeth--this is the same process used by dentists during regular cleanings and checkups!!! 3. After nothing else comes off of your teeth when scraping, (make sure to scrape all sides--and especially the fronts of your teeth because they're the main visible ones) then rinse with a solution of half hydrogen peroxide and half water. (Example: 1oz of water + 1oz hydrogen peroxide = 2oz of rinsing solution.) You should rinse with this solution for at least 30 seconds, preferrably 1 minute. Swish it around like you would mouthwash, but make sure not to swallow any! 4. Brush your teeth with normal toothpaste for at least two minutes and make sure not to miss a spot. (Hard-bristled brushes work the best.) 5. Finally rinse with the hydrogen peroxide solution (from step 3) again for 30 seconds. (You might want to rinse with water after this because this process will make your mouth a little dry. I usually have to drink some water after.) I don't suggest doing this more than once a week, however after you have done this more than two times you can use straight hydrogen peroxide without any water when rinsing. I guarantee that if you do a good job your teeth with be visibly whiter--usually after the very first time! This process has never failed for me and I have the whitest teeth that I've ever had in my entire life. Good luck!

can you really whiten your teeth in a tanning bed?
When I was at the tanning salon I saw this ad for this gel that you apply to your teeth when you're tanning, does anyone know if this would really work?
--------------------
Most of the newer whitening systems are done by putting peroxide on your teeth and then they put it under a light (maybe a uv light similar to a tanning bed) to enhance/quicken the peroxide's effect. It is probably a peroxide gel and i think you'd put it on your teeth like you would at the dentist and instead of the light going only to your mouth for whitening it goes over your whole body so you are doing both at once. That is the only explanation I can think of. I think it would work, but is also dangerous. peroxide can damage your teeth if you use it too much and if you apply it wrong, it can really burn your gums. Also, the light is only going to hit that gel if you are smiling wide the whole time. If you don't have one of those mouth opener things that spreads your lips open, your mouth is gunna get veryyyyy tired. Plus with your mouth in the position, the way your face would wrinkle from smiling, would give you like a tan line where your wrinkle is folded, and then tanning light doesn't hit it. That's why they have the dentist do it. But if you are ok with that, i suppose it could work. Check the ad and see what the active ingredient is. Then maybe google that and see if one of it's uses is teeth whitening.

Do Whitening Strips leave spots on your teeth?
I used the Walmart brand of whitening strips a while back, but a few days after I started, I stopped using them because when I took them off, I would see bright white splotches on my top front teeth. They would eventually fade, but I didn't want to make them worse. Ever since then, when I get up in the morning and look in the mirror, I often see the white spots reappear, which can fade all the way out within an hour, or they will only fade some I can notice it throughout the day somewhat. I am about to get married but my teeth look kind of yellow from being a southerner and always drinking that sweet tea! I've heard all sorts of good things about Crest White-strips, but will they make the splotches worse? I kind of assumed they showed up in the first place because of the low quality strips I was using, If they even were low quality? Should I try to Whitestrips or proffesional whitening? I sure don't want to make the occasional white spots worse!
--------------------
It sounds like the bleaching solution on the strips were uneven. Perhaps some areas were more concentrated than the other hence the white spots. Since you are getting married soon, I would invest a bit more money by going to a professional dental team who knows how to whiten your teeth properly. They know what's best for your teeth and you'll be guaranteed a proper smile by the end of treatment. During the whitening treatment, I would avoid drinking sweet tea/coffee/cola and smoking to maximized the results.

the best way is to visit a dentist. but if you struggle not to visit one because of youre worried of the bill maybe try salt. i am not joking, try salt to be your toothpaste, maybe it'll sound awkward but salt is a very effective cleaner of teeth, plus it also whitens it. hope i'd help. :)

Crest whitening strips...did i ruin my teeth!?
Ok so i will once in a while use crest whitening strips...i bought a 48 pack an i stil havent usd all of it..i will like occasioanly once every 2 or 3 weeks i will use a whitening strip for 3 days in a row(once a day for 3 days) And it seems good enough for me. So i dont use them often. Anyways just last night i used one an fell aspleep with them on...yea i kno stupid. Ur only sopposed to have them on for 30 minutes....but i woke up 4 hours later!!!! I rushed to take them off but the bottom one was gone...either i swallowed it or it deslved in my mouth...the top one was still on so i took it out...my teeth dont feel any more sensative..or anything they seem the same..but i just wanted to make sure i didnt **** them up at all...an yes i kno whiteneing strips ruins ur enamle...i just want to kno if keepin them on for 4 hrs F'd my teeth or gum lines up at all!?!??!/

This is how the strips actually work...this may help ease your mind. The whitening gel opens the enamel rods in your teeth to allow the peroxide to get down in the enamel of your teeth. This is why teeth get sensitive from the treatments. So here's my suggestion.....stay away from anything that can stain your teeth. This is like coffee, soda, red juices, I think you get the idea. I'd do this for 3-7 days just to play it safe. The enamel rods should close back up but since the strips were left on so long, it may take a little longer than usual. I don't think you destroyed your teeth or anything but if you have any problems, inflamation, or pain...call your dentist.

What's the best toothpaste to whiten your teeth?
I know a lot of toothpastes say they do but like none actually work! I'd like to know which ones do work for everyone?
--------------------
Personally, I don't believe in whitening toothpastes. "Whiteners: are added to toothpaste, but cannot actually whiten teeth. Instead, whiteners work to reduce stains on teeth. Examples include peroxide, citroxain, and certain abrasives" This quote is off of dentist.net concerning the whitening ingredients in toothpastes. Another way to look at it...toothpaste simply doesn't stay on your teeth long enough compared to actual whitening products and toothpaste typically is a much lower dose of "whitener". Thus my answer is none of them work any better than regular toothpaste.

Can soda stain your teeth if you have braces?
I have braces and I drink soda once in a while. Coca Cola and tinted drinks. Will this stain my teeth even if I brush right after? If so, what can I do to whiten my teeth again?
--------------------
Yes, ma'am it will, but by brushing your teeth immedietly after you are doing yourself really good. Keep it up! I wouldn't say to stop drinking soda though, because braces should not have to be an obstacle. But if your teeth are stained after when you get your braces removed, you can take these steps to fix them: 1) Gargle Hydrogen Peroxide- Ya it's gorss but it works! In fact, hydrogen peroxide is the main ingrediant in Crest Pro Health Whitening Mouthwash. But Peroxide is cheaper so stick with it. 2) Crest Whitening Strips- These will do the job quick! 1-2 weeks and you're done and the effects take a while to wear off. the downside: expensive. It's like 60-80+ for one of these bad boys. Brushing, flossing, and peroxide are your best bets here if you are not willing to spend a lot. 3) Bleach!- Now i don't mean the bleach you put in your clothes or anything, I mean go to the dentist and ask for them bleached! Depending on your dentist this could be expensive but this is the most effective way actually! The dentist will use a "belach" that whitens your teeth instantly with no sensitivity or anything. And then... you're done! TADA!

How can I whiten my teeth?
I was in my room and I looked at my teeth and Idk if it was just in that lighting cause they looked fine in the bathroom and I dont wanna use any whitener w/ bleach. I tried scrubbing my teeth for like three minutes. I scrubbed so hard my gums were bleeding everywhere. Don't want that to happen again! Help please? I don't have money to go out and buy expensive equipment & stuff. I can't drive either.
--------------------
Keep brushing your teeth every day, and use a lot of flouride. If you can, buy Crest Whitening Strips..they truly are a good investment and really work! I'm 16 and after I got my braces off last year I bought some just to freshen my teeth up. Good luck sweetie!

just gargle with the peroxide, or dilute it with water then gargle. it may help a little, but not drastically.

How do I whiten my teeth?
As I aged, I noticed I started to drink coffee and more soda, I think that somehow changed the color of my teeth, my teeth aren't that yellow but they aren't white either. I've tried Listerine Mouth Rinsing but it hasn't helped. I wonder what suggestions I can get. Thank you.

Is it safe or effective to gargle hydrogen peroxide for the use of whiting your teeth?
I herd that if you mix hydrogen peroxide with water (about 50 50) and gargle like Listerine it will whiten your teeth in about 3 week.

Brushing your teeth after every meal will prevent your teeth from getting any worse. And of course keeping away from coffee, tea and smoking will help too. ;-) The crest whitening strips work pretty good. I notice a difference the first few times I used it, but the more I used them though the less difference I saw. As far as the whitening tooth paste and mouth washes, they don't seem to do anything at all. What worked the best for me was this mail order stuff from teethwhiten.com, it worked really quickly. They had a free sample offer so you can try it out and see how it works for yourself. Click the link below if your interested in getting the free sample:

Can you whiten your teeth if you have a porcelain crown?
My front tooth broke in half, and my dentist is going to be putting a crown on it... will I still be able to whiten my teeth?
--------------------
When I am doing crowns for my patients I like for them to do some whitening before I shade match for the crown. 1) because most people eat things that stain their teeth (cola, wine, coffee, etc) and a few weeks of whitening with a custom tray can remove these stains so the crown shade can be accurately matched to tooth shade. 2) Crowns do not whiten to a shade lighter than when they were fabricated. So, if the dentist makes a crown for you to match your existing teeth and you want to whiten your teeth, the crown will end up looking darker than your teeth (after you whiten the teeth). If your tooth is broken now and you do not want to wait a few weeks to let the whitening work, have your dentist either use tooth-colored filling material to build your broken tooth and make it look good or have your dentist make a temporary acrylic or composite crown for you until the shade for your permanent restoration can be taken. Good luck!
