Is the extreme sensitivity caused by teeth whitening dangerous?

I've been whitening my teeth with Aquafresh Whitening strips, the only problem with them is they make my gums really sensitive, not so much that they cause problems during the day, but they really hurt when the strips are on and when i brush my teeth. Are my gums actually being harmed, or will I be safe if I just put up with it until it's done? I only have like 3 or 4 left till it's done. I don't want to keep whitening if something bad is actually happening to my gums/teeth, but I'm ok with the discomfort if it won't affect me adversely otherwise

Like any bleaching system, care should be taken to make sure that the strips are not on your gum tissue, but just on your teeth. If this is what you are doing, then I seriously doubt the strips would pose any long term threat to your gums. Maybe it would be a good idea to let your gums heal from what you have already done, and then finish off your strips.
