What is the explaination behind how this berry (strawberry) whitens teeth by directly rubbing it across the enamel?

i never heard of strawberries whitening teeth but now i want to try it to see if it works :] i just found an article on that:: http://www.health.com/health/article/0,2… and it saids that the malic acid in the strawberry helps to remove the surface discoloration
