The reason we bleach teeth is to effect removal of stains. Its important you find out what type of stain you have: Intrinsic stains are outside the tooth surface: caused by tea, coffee, stained orthodontic cement, tobacco, red wine etc. Easily removed by a good scale and polish) Extrinsic stains are inside the tooth (like the color of your skin are more difficult to change), caused by drug staining, flourosis, and the most notorious - general ageing. - Here bleaching has the best effect. NO BLEACHING TECHNIQUE IS PERMENANT 3 main types: Shop/pharmacy bleaching techniques - Poorly effective (strips, toothpastes etc) cheapest Home bleaching requires a dentist to fabricate a mouth guard which you wear at night with a special bleaching paste based on peroxides and hypochlorites. Effective but 4 month recall, and maybe an 8 shade change maximum. Cheaper than the last one below. Dental clinic bleaching techniques - Using the above chemicals and an adjunct of UV light or laser. Much more effective and costly. 8 Month recall and upto a 12 shade change. Some individual treatments are available.. for single tooth bleaching, needs to be checked by your dentist.
