What are the pro's and con's of whitening strips?

I just got my braces taken off (YAY!), and I want to get my teeth whitened. I have heard that they are unhealthy for you, but I don't know too much about that to make my decision as to whether I should use them or not. So I just wanted to know some background info on whitening strips, the pluses and the minuses, you know... yeah. Thx. :]]

No, there have not been health concerns with whitening strips. They contain a form of peroxide and if anything are killing off bugs in the mouth. When the bleach gets onto a root surface, you can get some sensitivity. This will last until that area remineralizes. You can hurry that process along by using a sensitivity toothpaste (which contains a potassium ion that will aid in this process). You could also use a fluoride rinse to help with the sensitivity. OK, now for the important part: brush and FLOSS well every day and wear those retainers. Retainers are the best cheapest insurance policy that your teeth won;t go back to their former crookedness. Good luck and bright smiles.
