Do you get Zoom Whitening before you get cavities filled??

The receptionist at my dentist office told me I need to whiten my teeth (which I want) before I get cavities filled. I have heard Zoom Whitening makes your teeth sensitive, however, she said get them whitened first so when they do the fillings, they are the correct color of my new white teeth. Any one have to do this?? Any experiences shared would be real helpful!

Yes, you do need to have the Zoom first before the fillings. The reason is this: if you are getting tooth colored fillings, they tooth colored fillings will be matched to the tooth with the cavity. Doing this PRIOR to the Zoom treatment will make the filling stick out like a sore thumb, because the FILLING will NOT get whiter with the Zoom treatment. It stays the same color no matter how much whitener is placed on there. So, if you get this done AFTER the Zoom treatment, the tooth colored filling can be matched to your new tooth color. Yes, Zoom (or any other tooth whitening system) can make teeth sensitive for a short time. This can be exacerbated by having cavities. But all of this is temporary. Once you get the Zoom treatment done and the cavities filled, the sensitivity should go away. I hope this helps.
