Is chewing trident gum actually good for your teeth?

It's a sugarless gum but it has some artificial ingredient that sweetens it. I've read things here and there that say dentists claim that it strengthens or whitens your teeth. Is this true, and is there any health / mental benefits from any gum, really?

Yes chewing trident is good for you! Trident contains a 5 carbon sugar, called Xylitol. This sugar is not digested by bacteria, and therefore the bacteria can not produce acid when it consumes this sweetener. The reason it is good for your teeth, is: a. it helps remove food stuck in the pits and fissures of your teeth when you eat, further helping with the prevention of cavities. And... b. Chewing gum increase the amount of saliva in your mouth, which can help remineralize the demineralized areas on your tooth surfaces!
