Are there common household items that you can use to whiten your teeth?

i have heard that baking powder works but i want something that improves your teeth on the first application.

i dont know of anything that works on 1st application but i know that baking soda and peroxide mixed together into a paste works great when u brush ur teeth with it twice a day.
