A question for those who have had Zoom teeth whitening?

My husband got me Zoom teeth whitening for Valentines Day. He had his done Wednesday and his teeth were so sore and painful and the inside of his lips were burned. Does this usually happen. Is this bad for your teeth. My teeth are pretty white anyway and I'm thinking about backing out. I guess I'm panicking a little. I don't want to do anything that weakens or hurts my teeth!

Zoom whitening is a much higher concentration of the active ingredient in over the counter whitening products so that it can be done in 1 visit. It's pretty caustic which is why they isolate your teeth, your husband's lip would have gotten burned if it touched the whitening gel. Also, with any whitening there is a increased chance of tooth sensitivity and the most with one shot products like Zoom. You can start preventively brushing with a sensitivity toothpaste a week before your Zoom appointment and keep it up for a few weeks afterwards and that will help a lot with that. Other than the temporary sensitivity it's not bad for your teeth. Just make sure they cover your gums very well with the isolating gel that hardens, and that they put plenty of cotton rolls between your lips and gums and cheeks to hold those tissues away from the teeth, and be careful to not lick your teeth or suck your lips over your teeth when the whitening gel is on them.
