teeth whitening after root canal treatment?

is it true that teeth cannot be whitened after a root canal treatment? and that they will stay the same color as they are no matter how much you brush? Also if this is true can anything be done to whiten your teeth after a root canal treatment?
--------------------
After a root canal, it is quite common to have a crown placed on the tooth. Root canalled teeth are quite prone to fracturing. In order to strengthen the tooth, it is a good idea to crown it. So with the crown, you can have it as white as you need it to be.
