how can i whiten my teeth at home without going to the dentist?

i really want my teeth to be whiter when i brush them, so is there anyway i can make them whiter at home?

My son did a science project on which toothpaste whitens best. He concluded that arm and hammer with baking soda did the job. The trade off is it tastes pretty bad.
