Is this at-home teeth whitening remedy safe?

I went on the internet searching for how to get white teeth without buying expensive whitening kits, etc.. with items you have around home. It said, that you mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda with 2 to 3 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide and brush your teeth with it. it said you can mix in some normal toothpaste to make it taste better. once you are done brushing with that youre supposed to brush with regular paste to get the taste away and so you get rid of the peroxide. Is this safe? Has anyone tried it, does it work? And, is hydrogen peroxide the peroxide stuff that you put on cuts and such and they turn white and foam ?? :S
