How can I whiten my teeth with things I have at home?
Hello everyone, I quit smoking about 4 months ago (yay me!) However, my teeth have never recovered! :-( Are there any home remedies you know of which can whiten my teeth.. Nothing with Vinegar please... can't stand the stuff... yuck.

Yay you! Congrats on quitting smoking, that's a major achievement. I have read that baking soda and hydrogen peroxide work to whiten teeth. You mix it together to make a paste then brush with it. Don't swallow it though because it taste bad. You can also brush with your regular toothpaste after brushing with this. Should help you and it doesn't have vinegar! If you want to go a different route, my sister told me about a site that has good teeth whitener info. This whitens them temporarily, but leads to worse and deeper staining in the long run. If you want a good, reliable, permanent result, you'll have to go to a dentist and have it done professionally. They do it with UV light, and doesn't cause any damage to the teeth. It can be expensive though, up to $500 depending on where you live. But, there are a ton of websites online that will help you to find a reputable dentist to do it overseas for a fraction of the cost, and you can get a short holiday out of it as well!

What is a good Teeth whitening product?
See when i was about 8, I slid on concrete (on my face :() and broke half of the bottom of my front tooth. They fixed it by sculpting it. Now that i got my braces off a month ago.. u can totally see the difference in color between the top and bottom half of the broken tooth.. I mean everyone says my teeth are white.. but thats only from far away.. but there not yellow yellow.. just a tint. :( Any good tips for whitenning or products?

Do your research, and check out a few nonbiased forums, because it hurt horribly for me. I had to leave before it was halfway done.

What are the foods that cause teeth staining?
I'm going to get my teeth professionally whitened soon and knowing that whitening isn't permanent, what are the foods and drinks I should avoid to make the whitening last longer. I know I shouldn't be drinking fruit juices or sodas or red wine. I should avoid cherries and blueberries. What else?

My dentist had my take baking soda, put it on a tooth brush and brush with just that and warm water. Then when your done rinse, and brush with tooth paste. I've been doing that 2 times a week for about 3 months now, and it has helped alot!

It seems silly, but rubbing mashed strawberry on your teeth can help to whiten them. I haven't ever tried it but it's a known home beauty treatment. Personally, I don't like spending money on whitener strips so I use baking soda and peroxide to brush my teeth. Really just get a small dish of baking soda near your sink and add enough peroxide to make a paste. Apply to your teeth with your brush and gently brush. Be sure not to swallow any of the peroxide and rise your mouth out with water. It keeps them nice and white as well as squeaky clean.

What should I do when my teeth are extra sensitive?
I whitened my teeth with an at-home bleaching kit from the dentist's office and my teeth only felt slightly sensitive while doing it. Then afterwards the pain got progressively worse until it was pretty excruciating, and now its better, but still a nagging pain and sensitivity. This has been going on for HOURS now! I have been using a special sensitivity toothpaste with flouride when I brush, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I also tried tylenol and vicodin which didn't help the pain either. Does anyone know any products or remedies or ANYTHING to help get rid of or prevent tooth sensitivity? I'm supposed to use that whitening kit at least a few times to get desired results, but now I'm dreading ever doing it again after the pain. Is there anything else I can do to combat the sensitivity? Thanks.

Nah, its not perminant. If you put bleach on your skin, you will get little white dots too. its nothing to be worried about. The peroxide was just killing the bacteria and some of the tissue on your gums. Just leave it alone... It should be gone in an hour or so.

How often can you safely whiten your teeth?
I used Crest Whitestrips Premium about two years ago to whiten my teeth, and one year ago, I used half a Crest Whitestrips Classic pack to make them just a bit whiter. Tooth-whitening toothpaste and mouth rinse doesn't work. Is there an alternative way?

Questions about teeth - Veneering porcelain + Whitening strips?
I believe I have had my front teeth treated with veneering porcelain. The original area of the teeth is white, but you the restored bits are clear-ish... and you can see that my original teeth weren't smooth, more like saw blades than knife blades. Kind of like this: http://www.etdr.net/images/vitavm7teeth.… Anyways, I was wondering if these "veneering porcelain" treated teeth would be compatible with whitening strips. I understand that the white strips act upon the surface of the teeth... meaning there's not much they can do when the surface is already coated with porcelain, yeah...? What should I do?

Sometimes, the veneers are perfectly fine but the cement used to stick them to the teeth isn't good and becomes yellow. So you might try to solve this problem by going to another dentist, taking the veneers off and recementing them with a better cement.

you can sprinkle it on top of toothpaste everyday (worked for me) , but a another better solution is to get a toothpaste from Trader Joes that had baking soda in it already. its not sweet, but its all natural with no sugar and it works even better. Which kind of Crest Whitestrips should I buy for my first time ever whitening my teeth?
I'm 18 and I've never had the need to whiten my teeth before but recently noticed they were looking a little dull (probably from drinking more coffee and sweet tea within the last year or two) and I decided to go buy some Crest Whitestrips. I would recommend switching to a toothpaste for sensitive teeth while you are using the whitening strips. I whitened my teeth and it was painful just to drink water from a drinking fountain because they were so sensitive! (Sensitivity happens with all teeth whitening, and tends to be worse with the faster acting formulas because they are stronger). Sensodyne worked well for me. Also make sure not to leave them on longer then stated - I made the terrible mistake of sleeping in the strips one night - I couldn't use them again for at least a week because my teeth were in so much pain! Teeth not whitening evenly?
I just started using Aquafresh pro-gentle whitening trays 5 days ago and they have whitened my teeth so far but there aren't coming out evenly. I have a small section on most of my top front teeth that is whiter than the rest of my teeth. I'm up for my next dentist appointment and was wondering that if a good cleaning would help me out. How can I get my teeth whiter?
I always brush my teeth at least 2x a day and they refuse to be white. They never grew in properly. They're small and there is a gap between the front two. On top of this, they're yellow. Do teeth whitening strips go old?
I have like, these Crest White Strips that I found the the back of my bathroom closet, and I wanted to use them. I stopped myself when I saw that they went old in 2004. D: They were my mum's a few years back, and she said I could use them because there were still a bunch of strips in there. After my braces came off, my orthodontist placed a permanent retainer in the back of my lower front teeth and was wondering if it's safe to have teeth bleached? I've heard it can be bad to do this and it could mess up the retainer?

Once searched, a list of dentists will come up and will tell you which ones are taking on NHS patients!! Call one of the dentists and arrange an appointment!!! It is probably best to go with an NHS dentist because to go private costs a lot more, and they don't do an any more effective job. It really does work, but mix them just before using. I found out (the hard way) that trying to mix up a supply ahead of time degrades the mouth wash over time.

my teeth are yellow. not the whole tooth, but more towards the root of the tooth. it really bothers me,and i CANNOT use any kind of whitening strips. i don't even drink much coffee or tea. so i don't REALLY think that they are stained. well maybe. i dunno. but sometimes i will have bad breath, too. i know everyone does from time to time, but still, it worries me that i might have some kind of rare disease or something! ugh. please help me!

unfortunately, i think my teeth might be naturally dark. my mom said she used to have the problem, but it is hard to fix because i have braces right now (top and bottom). i don't get them off for maybe a year. i heard from my pediatric dentist that toothpastes don't actually whiten ur teeth; they just bleach them. i want to know what ppl wit this problem use on their teeth, like gel or something, cuz i can't do the "zoom" thing. thx in advance.

Is it safe to use bleach and baking soda to brush teeth to try and remove stains from my teeth?

I have a teeth whitening problem!?
Today I got whitening gell from my dentist... I'm using a clear retainer for the treatments. After I put the trays in, my gums started stinging in certain areas. Then I noticed a small white spot on one section of my gums. When the stinging stopped, I put the trays back in but the white never went away. Is this permanent? Or is it just like burning your tounge and will heal soon?

What should I do when my teeth are extra sensitive?
I whitened my teeth with an at-home bleaching kit from the dentist's office and my teeth only felt slightly sensitive while doing it. Then afterwards the pain got progressively worse until it was pretty excruciating, and now its better, but still a nagging pain and sensitivity. This has been going on for HOURS now! I have been using a special sensitivity toothpaste with flouride when I brush, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I also tried tylenol and vicodin which didn't help the pain either. Does anyone know any products or remedies or ANYTHING to help get rid of or prevent tooth sensitivity? I'm supposed to use that whitening kit at least a few times to get desired results, but now I'm dreading ever doing it again after the pain. Is there anything else I can do to combat the sensitivity? Nah, its not perminant. If you put bleach on your skin, you will get little white dots too. its nothing to be worried about. The peroxide was just killing the bacteria and some of the tissue on your gums. Just leave it alone... It should be gone in an hour or so.

Okay... see I have had my teeth bonded, but I recently had one pinned about 3-4 months ago and everytime I drink something really bright, like Koolaid, which has alot of coloring, it somwhat stains my teeth. no it wont, it may removed some staining, read the packaging properly and you will find it doesn't actually claim to whiten teeth, probably just make teeth look whiter (by removing staining), you would need a product with hydrogen peroxide in to whiten teeth and it would need to remain in contact with your teeth for a number of hours per day!

Best Product for Teeth Whitening....?
I have a very important party to go to on Saturday. My teeth are yellow-ish. What's a product that will make my teeth white by Saturday? Teeth whitening help?
I got my braces off on september 14 2009...My Orthodontist gave me a bleaching kit 2 use but ive herd that bleaching your teeth isn't good. I only used my kit 2 days after i got my braces off then i quit because i didn't have any time 2 do it...If i use it just a few days from 2day do you think it would hurt my teeth....BTW i felt no sensitivity when i did it back i september

Has anyone paid professionally to get this done? Did you see a remarkable difference? Was it worth the money? Please do your research before you do this, it is generally safe, but anything with gel and a light.....stay away!

TEETH WHITENING-- ROOT CANAL PROBLEM!!?
I have two questions: 1) In a few years i'm going to get veneers or crowns on my two front teeth, and since they will be quite white, i want to bleach the other other teeth on occasions so the colour will match. Is this a good idea?... or will it harm those two teeth.. 2) Another thing, due to an accident, I had root canal done on both my front two teeth. One of them chipped almost halfway and the dentist filled it. I do not have crowns in yet, and I know bleach doesnt work on root canaled teeth. But would using bleach affect these teeth NOW? As in make them weaker because theres more chemicals coming in contact with them?

I was recently in the UK, on vacation. I noticed how yellow/orange most peoples teeth were. Here in the US there are many teeth whitening products and dentists that make teeth whiter. You can even use baking soda to whiten teeth, so why are the Brits so lazy when it comes to making their teeth look healthy. (they may be healthy but yellow doesn;t look too good.)

There aren't any successful whitening treatments which don't harm your teeth in the long run, to my knowledge. The dentist says whitening speeds up the decay process and you're likely to lose your teeth earlier on in life. Have you had a dentist checkup recently? They'll clean and polish your teeth properly and that itself can work wonders. =)

I read in Maxim a while back that you can smash up a strawberry and mix it with baking soda to kinda make a toothpaste and brush it on and leave it on for about 5 minutes, then wash off. I don't know if it really works or how many times you actually have to do it.

I am also hearing happy reviews with the Aquafresh whitening trays, unlike the strips they don't have the tendency to slip or move). All of the methods (strips, trays, custom trays, in office whitening) have the potential to make your teeth temporarily sensitive, but will not harm the enamel. If you get sensitive use the product every other day in conjunction with a sensitive tooth toothpaste. You might try to drink dark liquids through a straw and don't smoke. Most whitening toothpastes just remove stain on the surfaces of your teeth and therefore are not so effective. First of all, please dont. this will only irritate the gums around your teeth. It will not whiten your teeth. You need to use a bleaching gel with hydrogen peroxide in it.

Baking soda worked for me. Take a pan, put baking soda and water together, mix until it is pasty. Take that paste on your toothbrush and brush with that only. I used baking soda and it whitened my teeth a bit.

please let me know what strips you used, and what your result was, and if you were happy with it or not :) i cant decide and i dont know which is better, the ones that dissolve or the ones you leave in for 30 minutes or whatever it is. i appreciate your help!

I'm talking like baking soda, all those things that you hear about... Do they actually work? How much baking soda, and what should be added to it, for instance?

Baking soda is good for your teeth, but kind of a hassle. Add water and brush. But I prefer using whitening mouth wash. It's safe as long as you don't swallow. Just use before you brush. Whitening toothpaste is also a plus. It will whiten slowly but surely. Brush often and well, that naturally whitens all by itself. If you want to talk about the products out on the market, here's my opinion. The Crest whitening stripes are terrible. You are supposed to use them for like, two weeks. I tried and it wore off the enamel on my teeth (natural protection) and laughing hurt my teeth because air hit them and ouch! Don't use them! The things where you put a glower on the product on your teeth works fairly well and doesn't hurt. This site might help: http://www.teethwhiteningreviews.com/ Your best bet though, and it may be more expensive, but well worth it, is to go to your dentist and ask about them whitening your teeth. Unfortunately your fillings will not lighten up as will your natural teeth. They may stand out because they will be more yellow and would then need to be replaced. Sorry.

No its not bad, as long as you don't do it often. Crest white strips work very well, I've never tried them myself, but I heard good things about them. But its recommended you go to the dentist and get them whitened there.

What is the best procedure to whiten teeth?
So I finally quit smoking, been 2 weeks today. But my teeth have taken some damage from smoking all those years. Ive tried the reg crest white strips and they didnt work. I was looking into the White strips prfoessional you get at dental offices. I would just do it it the ol fashion way but dont have the extra 400 to spend. Any tips?

They are actually stained from the years of smoking. Your best bet would be to get the whitening done from your dentist, and then keep it up from there. My advice as a dental hygienist try the strips first and if your not happy with the results u can even try the whitening trays from your dentist or zoom which is an hour procedure.
